Swagger
These Yankees have something that I think has been lacking in the last few years. Swagger. It used to be only Jeter, Posada, the old guard. But these guys expect to win. And they act like it.
It's good to have you back, swagger! |

It is understandable, but wrong that he would try to deflect the accountability for his mistakes on to others and to a system for which he voted in favor. It is time to get on with life and forget the sour grapes."

Re: Swagger
The swagger, IMHO, is because they team is much better than in recent seasons. And I qualify "better" as a more diverse ballclub capable of scoring runs in a variety of ways, improved defense and an immensly improved bullpen that now have defined roles for Kyle Farnsworth, Scott Proctor, Ron Villone and Mike Myers in front of Mariano Rivera. We also shouldn't discount the potential for more improvement from Octavio Dotel.
We now have more contact hitters who can also run and manufacture offense with players like Johnny Damon, Melky Cabrera, Bobby Abreu and Robinson Cano in addition to Derek Jeter. The top of the lineup and their OBPs also allow Alex Rodriguez and Jason Giambi a ton of RBI opportunitites. We have the capability to hit for power, but it is not a requirement. Our defense is much improved with Cabrera, Damon and Abreu in the OF along with Craig Wilson at 1B. The rotation has solidified with Chien-Ming Wang and Mike Mussina leading it, the potential for Randy Johnson to throw a gem on occassion and depth from Cory Lidle. Even Jaret Wright has been effective for the most part. You're right, the team is still paced by Jeter, Rivera, Jorge Posada, and even the calm veteran Bernie Williams. But damn, we're so much more balanced now and that's why we have the swagger. A lot of players know that they can come through and therefore the whole roster can be confident. |

I'm hoping we win tonight and get our first 6 game winning streak of the season. We've had 5 game winning streaks a bunch of times and a 4 game losing streak twice, I believe. Very consistent. |

Yeah, the opposite of last year anyway. The first 2/3 of last season were insane Started 11-19 Then we won 8 in a row and like 15 of 19 Then we lost like 10 out of 13 Then we played like .667 ball the rest of the way That was really frustrating |

Yeah ithink during the 1st insane streak we went Tino hit a HR in almost every game. He hit probsbly 16 HRs the entire season but had like 12 in May... then in June and July Giambi carried us until lwe started playing as a team |

Re: Swagger
Bill Simmons (yuck) was on Baseball Tonight last night and said something similar: Yankee fans have their swagger back. Not that we ever lost it, but he seems to think that RSN succeeded in shutting us up for a couple of years. It's really good to know that things are reverting back to their normal ways.

Re: Swagger
It is great to see the swagger again. The only one who lacks it, IMO, is A-Rod. Imagine how great he can be if he gets it back? Swagger is contagious, it's only a matter of time before A-Rod picks it up too (or more often).

Re: Swagger
swagger is b.s. just like chemistry.. when you're winning, you can come up with all this nonsense that has nothing to do with what's going on in between the lines..

Re: Swagger
It's not swagger.
Damon has brought a whole new culture around here. A more "care-free" culture, a bit less corporate. Look at all the guys with a 'stach these days. Besides Fasano. More of a loose team out there. |

Re: Swagger
I don't know about swagger, but my confidence in the team has strengthened. I see an example of swagger as me telling people that my team is better then theirs, although this is true I would never go ahead and do that.

Yeah, they swaggered off the field in the ninth last night after Beltre hit a ball thrown over his head into the right field bleachers. It was against a pitcher who didn't have it when he came into the game, but Joe left him in until the game was lost. But we lose because the great and magnificent Jorge grounded into a dp with the bases loaded and a chance to blow the game wide open, or Canoe swinging at a ball after the pitcher had just delivered 6 straight balls; or the ump missing three pitched to a batter who should have been struck out but led to the M's knotting the score with a hit. Oh well, things happen, we couldn't keep winning every game and the M's couldn't keep losing every game - plus, the Sox went down again so it was a wash! |
