Pavano, Small, Wright injury updates

this was posted on yesnetwork.com...since all 3 are hurting i decided to start a new thread instead of repeating the same post in multiple threads.

hope no one minds

Pavano:

"A second injured Yankees starter, Carl Pavano, is scheduled to throw batting practice Wednesday and possibly start a game the middle of the next week.

Pavano, slowed by a back injury, will start the season on the disabled list, but could be ready when New York needs a fifth starter in mid-April."

Small:

New York RHP Aaron Small (hamstring) is improving, but might not throw off a mound for another week. He will likely open the season on the disabled list.

Wright:
Wright, through a team spokesman, said his back felt considerably better Monday.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman doesn't anticipate the problem will prevent Wright from being ready for opening day.

``I have no knowledge of that being in doubt,'' Cashman said.

Some more on Pavano and Small:

Quote:
Pavano on pace: Carl Pavano will throw his next batting practice session on Wednesday, then a final one on Saturday. That should set him up to make his first start of the spring next Wednesday or Thursday, just before the Yankees break camp.

Pavano is expected to need about 25-30 innings before joining the club in April, though Torre said Monday that the right-hander may even need 35 innings since he hasn't pitched since the middle of last year.

That essentially eliminates the possibility that Pavano could return by April 15, which is the first date the Yankees will need a fifth starter.

"We've been conservative the whole time," Torre said, "so we're not about to try to force him to get enough innings by that date."

With Pavano and Small expected to open the season on the DL, Torre said he is leaning toward taking 11 pitchers on the roster out of camp, opening up another spot for a position player. That player could be catcher Wil Nieves, who is out of Minor League options.

Wouldn't it be funny if Dotel made it off the DL before Carl?

I am partial to lefties.

I really hope Jaret gets healthy. Same for Pavano and Small.

As for DeSalvo, I met his aunt and uncle in Hartsfield Atlanta about six months ago. I can't comment on him as a player having never seen him pitch.

He's pretty decent. Not a top prospect or anything, but a solid #4-5. Sort of like, Bronson, you know

wait, Pavano is injured...Get out! When did THAT happen

I particularly like how the language about his injury slowly grows as the weeks go by...I'd be surprised if we see before June, if at all.

Torre did say at the beginning of spring that Pavano was a long shot. I guess he was more in the know than first thought.

I believe I said last year something along the lines of, "Wouldn't it be amazing if Wang and/or Wright makes it off the DL before Carl?"

Re: Pavano, Small, Wright injury updates

if desalvo is called up and does well, you can bet on either pavano or wright being dealt.
