Skip Bayless: "Mike Piazza is not a Hall of Famer"

So I was flipping through the channels, and I just caught Skip Bayless and Woody Paige "debating" whether Mike Piazza is a HOFer. Skip said he didn't care what position he played, his numbers are not HOF worthy. Apparently Skip doesn't understand how valuable a career .937 OPS from the catching position is, even if Mike can't throw to save his life.

That guy should be fired immediately. What kind of idiotic statement is that?

Skip Bayless being a moron is not news. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if he was saying this simply to be devil's advocate and didn't truly believe it.

I don't expect much from anyone I see on ESPN, but this is just absurd. I agree with PPA, if anyone had half a brain at ESPN this would be grounds for termination.

i really dislike Skip Bayless, and this isn't even why. This is just evidence of him being dumb (or taking a stance for the sake of being controversial), but he is also a huge ass

I don't have much respect for Bayless, but this takes the cake.

Piazza is a hall of famer. I hate to use the "if so and so got in then so and so should get in", but Piazza's numbers are right on par, and even surpass Fisk's... and this is in 10 less seasons.

Piazza is much better than Fisk. They have similar counting numbers, only because had over 2,000 more ABs. Piazza dwarfs him in OBP and SLG.

Skip Bayless accomplished his goal by having a dedicated discussion thread devoted to his controversial comments.

Re: Skip Bayless: "Mike Piazza is not a Hall of Famer"

Skip Bayless is not a human. Piazza's numbers aren't HOF worthy if translated to other positions, but considering how he's a catcher he should be a shoo-in for his offensive production even though runners stole on him at will.

I can't imagine that he actually believes that, but then again, I can't imagine that any sports guy would say something that stupid if they didn't believe it because they'd be ridiculed.

Skip Bayless is pretty much the worst "journalist" in America. Well, he and Mike Lupica are close at least.

Plus, he's on Cold Pizza. Anyone on Cold Pizza automatically sucks.

Re: Skip Bayless: "Mike Piazza is not a Hall of Famer"

Here's the thing... I've talked to some on air people, they dont always believe some of the things they say. They just say it to improve the conversation. If both guys said Piazza is a HOF'er, what kind of a conversation is that?

It makes for good TV for them to disagree. Quite honestly, I bet he was TOLD to say that, that in the rundown, it said "Bayless - not HOF: Paige - HOF"

All of TV is so carefully planned out, that would not surprise me at all.

Skip Bayless is not a real journalist. He's an Al Qaeda terrorist sent to America to undermine the thing most coveted by American males, professional sports.

Agreed, first thing I thought. On my sports show, several times, I had to be in such a position. Having two people agree on something all the time isn't fun to listen to.
