Cubs may have put Corey Patterson on Waviers.

The Yankees should put in a claim and work out a deal. Womack would be a perfect fit for the Cub`s, he can return to second Cub`s not happy with Todd Walker at second. they just recalled Patterson, they obtained a CF and lead off man in Matt Lawton so Patterson is available

Todd Walker is a bat with no glove. Womack is no bat/no glove. Why would they want anything to do with Womack?

Patterson turns just 26 on Saturday and hit almost .300 just two years ago. Stole 32 bases last year. K's a lot though and not a great OBP. Could work out for us if we don't have to give up too much.

You can bet he was put on waivers. Just about every MLB player is placed on waivers. It does not mean a thing.

Agreed, the Cubs are desperate, but not stupid. That shouldn't stop us from trying though. Patterson has the tools, and a change of scenery couldn't hurt. If Mattingly could get through to him, he could be exactly what the doctor ordered.

Isn't Patterson a real CF (or did you mean the Cubs need one)?? Bernie should NEVER,EVER play CF for the Yankees again. He gave up another run in a crucial situation today (and he could have at least held him to a double). Patterson would be a great pick-up for us.

If Patterson is dealt for Womack everyone in Chicago should lose their job. And they might very well suffer the wrath of the Cubs fans first. Patterson's in a bit of question at the moment but his ability, potential, and value are still WELL above that of Womack's.

Yeah, after Bernie's little waltz over to the ball in the 10th today, I'd be willing to say that Corey Patterson should be welcomed with opened arms.

After seeing the difference between Aaron Rowland in center and poor Bernie just not having enough range, I am all for it. I think the Yanks should just stick Womack out there and bat him 9, and Bernie DH. I think Womack has enough speed to get to some of those balls.

That tripel by Uribe would have been caught by an above average center fielder. We need a high level defender out there.

There was an article in todays suntimes (don't have the link handy) talking about the cubs freeing up money for next year by getting rid of Nomar, Sosa money, etc and pursuing Johnny Damon and AJ Burnet. In that blur they mention trading Patterson to the Yankees as a possibility. FWIW

You are absolutely right. Teams routinely pass their entire roster through waivers during this time, it doesn't mean they are getting traded. I remember reading a GM once said that they did it purely for volume purposes. It requires paperwork and time to claim guys who go across the wire, if you flood the wire, then guys will get through.

I love to see Patterson in Pinstripes and I'd love to see Damon anywhere but in Pinstripes. Sounds good to me.

I am sure Patterson was placed on waivers (along with the rest of the Cubs) but given he is cheap with some upside, I would think nearly every small market team, and many teams lower in the standings than the Yanks, would place a claim on him. I would seriously doubt he survived the NL waiver screen, let alone make it up the standings in the AL to the Yankees.
