Rumor about possibly acquiring Aubrey Huff

I know that Bob Nightengale isn't the best resource, and Chuck Lamar, the DRays GM is an axx to deal with, but the concept of getting Aubrey Huff to fill in at 1B was floated in a recent column:

I don't know who we'd have to give up, but what do you guys think about this possibility?

They'll want a lot, too much for Huff. Wasn't he shopped before the season but nobody wanted to give up what the DRays wanted?

Huff at 1B would be amazing. The kid can flat out hit, plus being a lefty and in NY, he would excel rather well. I would love to see Huff in Pinstripes. More so than Adam Dunn.

I love Huff as a stand alone acquisition, but what the heck will the Yanks do with the logjam they have now?

I'd do it, but we would then be without a catcher

If they'd take Giambi, I'd do it. I wouldn't even mind if we paid a majority of his contract, becuase really, we're most likely going to have to, one way or the other.

The only problem is, we already have a bunch of 1B, and he could block the way of Duncan, who I believe is going to play first at the Major league level, when ready.

How is Huff's defense in the OF?

edit: Giambi, Quantrill and Stanton for Huff and a RP(or something else). We pay some of Giambi's contract.

Huff isn't horrible in the OF, but he wouldn't be an upgrade anywhere.

I love Huff's bat, but what the HELL do we do with another 1st baseman? Yes, I get that he's "special", but does that mean either Tino or Giambi get released? Benched permanently?

Huff's numbers are way down this year. I hate to say it, but I would be very leery of trading for anyone who's stats took a big dip this particular year

I got to see Huff when he played at Charleston SC A ball. He was a hitter even then
