Taiwanese paper: Torre said Wang will definitely return to AAA after Wright is back

Hi All,

I am a Taiwanese american, I rarely post but I will try to bring everyone some news I see about Wang from Taiwanese paper since some of the information are not available here.

One article from one of Taiwan's biggest newspapers "Chinatimes" said that Torre spoke to Taiwanese media about Wang after yesterday's game. He said that Wang will "definitely" return to AAA after Wright comes back, but Wang will be back in September. He and Cashman insisted that Wang is only on a "temporary assignment" at this time, and it is impossible for the Yankees not to start their high priced pitcher, regardless of Wang's performance in the Major. Torre explained that going back to the minor the only way to give Wang consistent start.

After being told about this, Wang said "I don't mind going back to minor league"

Don't believe it. If Wang is tossing gems out there and continues to keep the ball in the park, he's staying. At worst, Wright could become a long reliever and somebody else out there is sent packing. Really, if Pavano and Brown continue to struggle, do you think Torre is going to let Wang go back to Columbus and risk having a 3rd shaky starter in the rotation?

Unfortunately, this is the way it will have to be. This situation exposes the absolute stupidity of signing Jared Wright to a big dollor contract. I just really hope we keep Wang for the long-term.

I hope you're right. If we can trade him maybe at the deadline, even better. No way is Wright better than Wang, although I'm sure he'll get another chance in the rotation.

I absolutely agree. There is NO way the Yankees are going to take a guy pitching gems out of the rotation. I think that given the age of our rotation, someone is going to suffer some sort of injury and I also doubt that Wright is going to be back in the rotation anytime soon. I wonder if Wright doesn't become trade bait if Want continues to pitch this way? I know, Wright is making a bunch of moola, but everyone needs pitching.

Some excellent points here, but I still think Wang will be caught suspensory and plenty transposed.

Unfortunately, this move is understandable. The Yankees are paying Wright a lot of money. They will try to see if once he is healthy if they can straighten him out and get him on track before taking him out of the rotation.

Trade bait? Are you kidding? A borderline pitcher with a crappy arm and a big contract? People won't be beating down our door if you catch my drift. Look at what's going on with Giambi right now - he is playing because of money. Same thing goes for Wright, when he gets 'healthy'.

I could see the logic in this, sadly. If Wright comes back healthy and goes back in the rotation, it does Wang no good to sit around as a long man, he needs to continue his development as a pitcher in the minors. With the experience and success he's had so far, his confidence should be very high and he might turn into something very special. If Torre is telling him this now, it's probably to keep the positive vibes going and his confidence high, explaining that it's more of a numbers thing and he's on the right track and to keep it up because he'll be back in September, not to mention sooner if there is an injury.

However, the other part of it is, if he continues to pitch well, we might see an El Duque thing going on here as well. El Duque was only supposed to be up for a start or 2 after Cone got bit by that Jack Russell Terrier, back in 1998. Next thing you know, he's saving the season in Game 4 in Cleveland. Wang might end up just being too good to send down, Wright or no Wright.
