Help Us Raise Money for ALS - Enter a Drawing for a Signed Jeter Baseball!

As some of you might have seen we are currently conducting a fundraiser for donations to "Curt's Pitch," the program Curt Schilling (otherwise known as gehrig38 here) has to raise money to fight ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). For every donation the users here make, Curt will match it with a donation out of his own pocket to "Curt's Pitch," as well as a second matching donation to NYYFans.com which will help us pay our bills and keep this site running. So for every donation you make you will not only help fight ALS, you will help keep NYYFans.com alive and you will also be taking money out of Curt Schilling's pocket!

How can you donate? It's easy. You can visit this link: Curt's Pitch to make an online donation via credit card. In the space for acknowledgements please put NYYFans.com in and also let us know via a post in this thread or in the original thread that started this: http://forums.nyyfans.com/showthread...4&page=1&pp=45. That way we can keep track of everyone's donations. This fundraiser will run until Curt makes his first major league start of the season.

ALS, otherwise known as Lou Gehrig's disease, has no known cause, cure or treatment and leaves those who are striken with it trapped in their own bodies as they gradually become completely paralyzed. The money that we raise through this fundraiser will go towards research towards hopefully finding a cure for ALS, as well as for caring for those with ALS. The average cost for caring for someone with ALS is $200,000.

I thank everyone who has donated money to this most excellent cause so far ($1,225 raised at last count) and I urge anyone who has a few extra dollars to help us fight ALS!

-Deborah

I'm going to keep a running total, so that I don't have to post every time someone donates, I can just edit it:

We are currently at
$3,329.38

Re: Help Us Raise Money for ALS, Help NYYFans.com Too!

Just so everyone who might read this thread in JC and not the one in ATM knows, the pot has been even further sweetened with a donation. (And you thought it wasn't possible. )

In this post in the original thread:

http://forums.nyyfans.com/showthread...07#post1995207

Jim has announced that not only will a donation of $50 or more help this site with a matching donation and ALS with double the amount, but will also get the donater a custom avatar if they don't already meet requirements for a custom avatar as long as they follow the instructions in his post there.

A donation between $25-$49 will get whoever makes it a custom user title if they don't have one already.

In addition, a donation of $75 of above will get one BOTH a custom av AND a custom user title.

So, if you were on the fence as to whether to donate to this extremely worthy cause, there's some more incentive.

Aside from helping to fight ALS the best part about this is that the more donations there are, the more a Red Sox player has to pay out of pocket to support a Yankee fan site.

Question:
How long will this be going on? I want to donate but I am not working right now. I will probably have to wait until the summer to donate unless I get this job at school. So let me know!

Re: Help Us Raise Money for ALS, Help NYYFans.com Too!

Ok, here's the latest incentive... Thanks to a very generous offer from our very own TripleG23, we now have an autographed Derek Jeter baseball, complete with COA from Steiner Sports, which will be given away to one lucky forumer participating in this fundraiser, via a random drawing. Actually the winner will be able to choose between two very awesome signed Jeter baseballs but I will let TripleG23 explain the details of each.

How do you qualify? Anyone who has already donated at least $25(with the exception of myself) or donates at least $25 before the conclusion of this fundraiser will be entered into a random drawing for your opportunity to win an autographed Jeter baseball. And the more more money you donate, the more times your name will be entered - so for example if you donate $50 your name will be entered twice, $75 three times, $100 four times and so on... The name of the winner will be drawn randomly from a box by an impartial observer independent of this site for the sake of fairness.

To enter, let us know in this thread that you've donated and forward me a copy of the confirmation email you recieved from the ALS chapter when you made your donation to silverdsl@nyyfans.com so I have some proof of your donation, along with your user name here. That's it!

I can tell you that authentic autographed Derek Jeter baseballs of this nature go for a lot more than $100 so the lucky winner is both going to help an awesome cause and get a sweet piece of memorablia!

Thanks again to everyone who has donated thus far and a big thank you to TripleG23 as well!

Re: Help Us Raise Money for ALS - Enter a Drawing for a Signed Jeter Baseball!

Hello All,

I want to Thank Jim & Deb for allowing me to help out in raising money to fight ALS & help support NYYFans. I think it's a wonderful charity to help out "Curt's Pitch" and I hope my offer will encourage those who have not already donated to help out and donate some money to a great cause! I donated some money through Lou Gehrig's website to the Columbia University ALS Gift Fund and then I saw what was going on here so I wanted to help out even more!

Our idea as Deb already posted is to give away one Derek Jeter Signed Baseball. Donate $25 and you will be entered for a chance to win! Donate $100, your chances increase as you will have 4 entries into the drawing!

One lucky winner will get to choose between the following Derek Jeter Baseballs :

The first is a Derek Jeter Signed Rawlings Gold Glove Baseball. Signed on the sweet spot by Derek Jeter to commemorate his first Gold Glove Award in 2004. This Rawlings Special Gold Glove Edition Baseball will come with a Certificate of Authenticity from Steiner Sports and is also tagged by the Major League Baseball Authentic Autograph Hologram . . . You can view an example scan of this baseball here: http://www.steinersports.com/dejehasi20go.html

The second is a Derek Jeter Signed New York Yankees 100th Anniversary Baseball. Signed under the New York Yankees Anniversary Logo this baseball is also hand numbered / limited edition of 500! The baseball comes with a Steiner Sports COA and is tagged by the Steiner Sports & Major League Baseball Authentic Autograph Holograms. . . You can view an example scan of this baseball here: http://www.steinersports.com/dejehasi10an1.html

Both Baseballs have a retail value of $350 So no matter what baseball the winner picks they both have the same value; just great items from the Yankee Captain!

** I'm going to try and get pictures up by Wed of each baseball! **

As a special added bonus I will also include a free display case for the winner's baseball!

So get to donating Yankee Fans!! It's a great cause, and now you have a chance to win a great prize! Let's Go Yankees and if anyone has questions for me you can feel free to send me a PM.

- George

When I got his autograph a few years ago, I was gonna ask him to resign it with better penmanship

Re: Help Us Raise Money for ALS - Enter a Drawing for a Signed Jeter Baseball!

Hey! I just had a problem come up when I tried to make a donation to "Curt's Pitch." My donation will be $104.38 to the cause. I used my Visa Debit Card and know I have the funds... at this time!

Want to know if anyone else had this problem. The donation was to go to the Rhode Island chapter. I am signed on right now at Jenn's e-mail address because the computer was acting up real slow at RedSoxYr04 MY e-mail address! Could that be the problem as I put MY e-mail address in the e-mail space on the form... when I was signed in underJenn's e-mail?

I want to know what to do for my donation because I want NYYfans to get credited too... but don't want to take the chance of getting bumped an additional $104.38 if I do it again!

I want to make another smaller donation in the name of my children to "Curt's Pitch" and I guess I'll sign off and get back on MY e-mail address... and see what happens.
