Moesha? Lots of people watched it... nobody else watched the other shows that were advertised during Moesha.

Buffy? Lots of Buffy fans followed the show to UPN but carefully avoided anything else on the network.

QUOTE] Well, I suspect that a lot of people watched Moesha and Buffy for other reasons than their plotlines or acting. But this is very weird...it's a good thing Bob Murphy is dead, because I was expecting him to do the "happy recap" of a Yankee win and then see Bobby Murcer and Suzyn Waldman do a post-game analysis of the Met game! It's like that Odd Couple episode where Oscar and Felix trade habits.

I go back to the time that WWOR carried the Brooklyn Dodgers and the Yanks were on channel 11.

I do remember the Yankees on Channel 11...when I was a kid!

That is not true. The UPN Network is owned by Viacom but Channel 9 is owned by Fox. Unlike CBS, NBC, etc the UPN station in New York is NOT network owned. It is an affiliate owned like many of the broadcast networks across the country.

All the networks have what they call "owned & operated" affiliates. These are channels like 2 (CBS), 4 (NBC), and 7 (ABC) in NY and LA. They're owned and operated by the networks. These affiliates rarely cause trouble by refusing to run any of the network programs. There are also independent affiliates -- usually a group of stations owned by a conglomerate. These affiliates are the "trouble makers" (think the Sinclair stations refusing to play Saving Private Ryan) that have issues with the occasional network program. UPN is in a weird position of having some of its affiliates owned by FOX. But FOX won't refuse the programming because that would create bad blood amongst friends and business partners. Nevertheless, it can be confusing.

Re: The Yankees move to WWOR!

The move has now been offically announced. The Yanks will have 21 games on WWOR next season.

Does this move affect the Radio? When the Tv stuff switch to CBS, the radio went to 880 CBS...Will they move to a fox affiliated radio station now?

I don't believe it will. It went to WCBS because WABC decided not to renew the contract. So, my guess would be that the Yanks will stay. Plus there has been no mention of the Yanks moving radio stations anywhere in any newspapers, so it would seem highly unlikely.

I wonder if the WWOR feeds wind up on one of the Fox sports pak channels in Directv.

Re: The Yankees move to WWOR!

Ugh... WWOR is such an unprofessional network which broadcasts a terrible signal in terms of picture quality - and I have DirecTV. Their anchors on news broadcasts look like high school news reporters talking about the latest mystery meat being served in the cafeteria. Browsing the guide their lineup consists of Blind Date, lots of Paid Programming, televangelists, Who's the Boss, and reruns of second-rate sitcoms. I honestly don't see how they got more money out of these clowns than one of the big 4.

I don't know. If they were CBS affiliates, my guess is that they will bow out. If they are not CBS affiliates, they will likely continue to air Yanks games. I really don't know the official answer though

Re: The Yankees move to WWOR!

Anyone hear if this WWOR deal is truly a 3 year deal? I am thinking of getting local stations on my Directv (I currently get NYC/LA networks to the tune of $2.25 each per month). This move will cut my bill by approx $15 per month...and I can get the ocassional WWOR game on the Albany Fox affiliate, which is more than I get now.

I just want to make sure that CBS 2 will NOT be getting it back next year as I think once I change to locals........there's no going back!
