Joe Mauer is amazing

I mean how good is this guy?

He gets injured all the time and whenever he's playing he's putting up some amazing numbers. We all know he can play behind the dish too.

Anyways, his .444 AVG in his first near 100 AB's doesn't shock me, what does is the 11 HOME RUNS.

He has hit 55 HR's throughout his MLB career, in over 2,000 AB's
11 of them have come off his bat this year in hiss 81 at-bats

That's 20% of his home runs in his MLB career in the first 80 AB's this year

Shows how he always could hit for power, just never did. Now he is hitting for AVG and power and makes it look easy. Line drives up the middle all the time.

I wonder how many home runs he has hit to centerfield so far this year being that he hit like 2 or 3 to center in YS for home runs

Random question, AJ.

If it meant that the Yankees would automatically get Joe Mauer, would you stop rooting for the Twins?

I wonder how permanent this display of power is. In 1987 Wade Boggs hit 24 HRs and had a .588 SLG%, but never really approached those numbers again.

Leads one to question whether this recent power surge is a sign that he'll be hitting for more power permanently (like George Brett) or just a matter of his swing being temporarily altered like Boggs.

I hate to say it, but yeah, the guy can flat out play. Plus, he's a dead-ringer for my cousin.

Can't wait to see the contract he gets on the FA market. I'd be surprised if the Twins can lock him up.

He was long touted as the best hitting prospect in baseball, but the power is definitely a bit surprising.

Joe Mauer is a freaking beast so far this season, but like everyone else has stated, that power is a surprise. He must've put in quite a bit of work these past couple of offseasons and it's working out well for him.

Remember I started following the Twins to watch Santana. So no.

Doesn't change the fact that he's a great player.

About 200 million will get it done.

If the Twins cannot resign him, he will be on the market at coincidentally the same the Yankees, Red Sox and Mets are all searching for a catcher.

People can talk about Cervelli (and I like him) or the other kids down in the minors, but Mauer is going to be 27, already a batting champion and great overall player.

I just dont see the Yankees passing on that. It's like not signing Beltran.

No worries; the Twins will lock him up. If not, their management deserves no respect from anyone.

I'll have to see it to believe it. I mean, this is the same organization that has basically traded Santana and Garza for Delmon Young and Carlos Gomez. Certainly a lack of intelligence going on there.

Hopefully they can get the money right.

They better break the bank for him. I mean he's the perfect guy to build a franchise around. Local kid, class act, best catcher in MLB, etc.
