Of course not (I wouldn´t trade Phil Hughes for anyone), but if A-Rod were to go somewhere else in a trade this season, it would have to be for some top notch talent... and it doesn´t get any better than Clayton Kershaw (best left handed pitching prospect in the game)...

OK - so who plays right field for the Yankees?

If Damon were healthy, you could slide Melky to right, and play Damon in center. I don't think Damon is healthy...

Otherwise it's Kevin Thompson or Justin Christian (who's hitting well at AAA) or Shelley Duncan

OR... it's someone we're trading for

Maybe you get back a young right fielder who gets a shot.

That was my point, the Dodgers would just say piss off.

He´s not going anywhere then... we are talking about the best player in baseball and maybe the most talented player to ever play the game.

Plus I want him to retire as a Yankee .

Re: Official 07 trade speculation thread!!

Why would we trade ARod?? It only makes sense if we're certain that he is going to opt out and sign elsewhere. Which personally I don't see happening. More than likely ARod signs an extension with the Yankees. With the Texas money we can give him more than anyone else so the only reason he leaves is if he really doesn't want to play for this team anymore. Everything he has said to the press about his intentions is that he wants to remain a Yankee and finish his career here and will only leave if he is not wanted. That is certainly not the case so there really shouldn't be any talk of trading him or of him not being a Yankee for at least most of the rest of his career.

He's definitely not going to be traded anywhere. And agreed.

Depending on what we could get for him that might be a good deal. I'd wait until the end of the month though to see where we are and how he is playing but if we could get a good young player that could play now it might be a good deal. I wouldn't give him away but if we got a good deal it certainly wouldn't be a bad move because we'll probably lose him for nothing in the offseason. I don't think we'll even get compensation picks because we would have to offer him arbitration which he would probably take.

On the other hand, why not offer him a 2 year $40MM extension now? That would make his total 5years 121 million, or over 24 million/year. I don't believe he'll top that in the open market. If he turns it down, then think about trading him, because it would mean he just wants to get out anyway.

Well, I'm sure he wouldn't take arbitration if he was opting out, but I'm not sure how the picks work in an opt out like his. With JD Drew (another Boras client), it was written into his contract that he could opt out and the Dodgers COULDN'T offer arbitration, so there was no compensation.

The writer from the website who posted that rumor mentioned the AZ D'Backs as a potential suitor as a summer rental.Love to get Quentin or Jackson but we would have to eat alot of $$ and add a prospect.

I'm aware, arthroscopic surgery on his pitching shoulder.

That's not correct, this is what was in his article regarding Abreu. "One major league executive said there's "a pretty good chance" Bobby Abreu will attract interest from a National League team this month, assuming the Yankees are willing to pay a significant portion of the $10 million he's still owed."

Re: Official 07 trade speculation thread!!

it would start with loney and laroche, but a trade won't happen.

the only organization that would be willingly to give up a lot of talent, is the angels, and they have a lot of different choices we could pick out of:

wood
santana
mathis
sheilds (did he get extended?)
weaver
ect.
