Aramis Ramirez opts out of contract; is a FA

http://www.rotoworld.com/content/pla...rt=MLB&id=2592

So can we stop including him in possible A-Rod trades?

Shocking. I can't understand why he wouldn't want to be part of the "new" Cubs. I see him ending up in Houston, or some other NL team. Maybe he'll get picked up by the Braves.

But he could still be a replacement if ARod is moved.

Chicago can still resign him, this is simply forcing the Cubs to give him the biggest raise possible, and exploit the possiblity of any one else being a sucker and giving him more.

Phillies and Padres have the biggest need for him. Padres are unlikely to pony up the money for him though, but the Phillies just might. espically if they can rid themself of Pat Burrell. (here's an idea... Burrell to the White Sox!!, they need anyone better than Pod .... )

Yeah, but then you don't trade for him. You trade A-Rod for other parts and just sign Ramirez (if the Yankees liked Aramis Ramirez - I'm not such a huge fan).

Ramirez's stance obviously has changed. He stands to cash in as one of the most consistent run-producers on the market, along with Alfonso Soriano and Carlos Lee, and there's no doubt he'll be the top third baseman available.

General manager Jim Hendry was not surprised that Ramirez exercised the opt-out clause, forcing negotiations to continue into early November.

"We've had positive dialogue and both sides would still like to see an agreement," he said. "Hopefully, something will happen."

Kinzer insisted the Cubs remain Ramirez's first choice. They'll retain exclusive negotiating rights to him until the free-agent signing period begins on Nov. 11. But the Los Angeles Angels already have indicated that Ramirez will be their primary free-agent target, and the Dodgers are expected to join in the bidding as well.

"He knows those teams will be highly involved, and they're both good teams," Kinzer said.

Wow, that's a surprise. He'll have a lot of interested parties.

So much for the A-Rod trade everybody kept speculating about.

Looks like the Cubs may need a new 3B. I wonder who Lou would want?

Another big bat just hit the FA market.

What does this do to Sheffield's trade value?

it hurts ARod's trade value quite a bit too--i wouldn't be surprised to see aramis back with the cubs anyway.

Re: Aramis Ramirez opts out of contract; is a FA

Now that Aramis has re-upped with the Cubs - I'm curious to see what the Angels are going to throw at teams like the Yankees (Alex?) or Red Sox (Manny?) to get another big bat.
