WEEK 5

DPR: Defensive Passer Rating
YPA: Offense Passing Yards Per Attempt (includes sacks and yds lost)
RD: Rushing Defense (yards per game)
DYPC: Rushing Yards Per Carry (defense)
RO: Rushing Offense (yards per game)
YPC: Yards Per Carry (offense)

Sunday, Oct. 1

Miami at New England 1:00 p.m.
This has the makings of a trap game for the Pats, who have to really screw things up to lose this one. The Pats passing game should do well against a weak Miami secondary.
DPR: Miami 98.9 (27th) - New England 89.8 (21st)
YPA: Miami 5.03 (27th) - New England 6.24 (12th)
RD: Miami 94.5 (T-14th) - New England 91.5 (13th)
DYPC: Miami 3.0 (T-3rd) - New England 3.7 (T-14th)
RO: Miami 89.8 (24th) - New England 154.0 (3rd)
YPC: Miami 4.1 (12th) - New England 4.3 (11th)

Patriots 24-3

Tampa Bay at New Orleans 1:00 p.m.
The Saints are mediocre at best at running the ball, the Bucs are horrid at best in this area. Moreover, Tampa's pass defense is terrible too. What's scary is that the Tamps passing game was bad before Simms' injury. Look for Brees and the Saints to lay the smack down on an aging Bucs defense.
DPR: Tampa Bay 89.9 (22nd) - New Orleans 76.0 (13th)
YPA: Tampa Bay 4.89 (30th) - New Orleans 7.17 (6th)
RD: Tampa Bay 170.0 (31st) - New Orleans 108.0 (19th)
DYPC: Tampa Bay 4.8 (T-29th) - New Orleans 4.6 (T-25th)
RO: Tampa Bay 43.3 (32nd) - New Orleans 103.3 (17th)
YPC: Tampa Bay 2.4 (32nd) - New Orleans 3.4 (T-22nd)

Saints 30-6

Washington at N.Y. Giants 1:00 p.m.
These teams are closely matched. However, with a healthy Clinton Portis, the Skins offense has become potent. This should be a high scoring, exciting contest. I have to give a slight edge to the Redskins.
DPR: Washington 93.5 (24th) - N.Y. Giants 93.6 (25th)
YPA: Washington 7.30 (3rd) - N.Y. Giants 6.80 (8th)
RD: Washington 79.5 (5th) - N.Y. Giants 89.3 (12th)
DYPC: Washington 3.2 (T-6th) - N.Y. Giants 2.9 (2nd)
RO: Washington 145.5 (6th) - N.Y. Giants 115.0 (10th)
YPC: Washington 4.6 (T-6th) - N.Y. Giants 5.0 (2nd)

Redskins 37-31

St. Louis at Green Bay 1:00 p.m.
The Rams have had trouble stopping the run. Fortunately, Green Bay can't run the ball. The Rams pass defense should get at least 2 INTs from Favre.
DPR: St. Louis 67.5 (8th) - Green Bay 98.8 (28th)
YPA: St. Louis 6.34 (10th) - Green Bay 6.04 (17th)
RD: St. Louis 120.5 (22nd) - Green Bay 98.3 (16th)
DYPC: St. Louis 4.5 (24th) - Green Bay 3.6 (13th)
RO: St. Louis 103.3 (T-18th) - Green Bay 81.3 (26th)
YPC: St. Louis 3.7 (18th) - Green Bay 3.3 (25th)

Rams 24-10

Detroit at Minnesota 1:00 p.m.
Brad Johnson had an uncharacteristic 2 INTs at Buffalo last week. Look for Brand and the Vikes to rebound against the wretched Lions pass defense.
DPR: Detroit 121.9 (32nd) - Minnesota 76.8 (14th)
YPA: Detroit 6.15 (13th) - Minnesota 6.28 (11th)
RD: Detroit 86.5 (10th) - Minnesota 89.0 (11th)
DYPC: Detroit 3.0 (T-3rd) - Minnesota 3.4 (T-10th)
RO: Detroit 70.5 (29th) - Minnesota 96.5 (22nd)
YPC: Detroit 3.8 (T-16th) - Minnesota 3.6 (19th)

Vikings 27-17

Tennessee at Indianapolis 1:00 p.m.
To put it most simply, the Titans are going to Indy to get killed.
DPR: Tennessee 102.8 (29th) - Indianapolis 93.7 (26th)
YPA: Tennessee 5.44 (24th) - Indianapolis 7.23 (5th)
RD: Tennessee 177.0 (32nd) - Indianapolis 155.0 (30th)
DYPC: Tennessee 4.8 (T-29th) - Indianapolis 4.8 (T-29th)
RO: Tennessee 70.3 (T-30th) - Indianapolis 100.8 (20th)
YPC: Tennessee 3.0 (T-27th) - Indianapolis 3.5 (20th)

Colts 45-17

Buffalo at Chicago 1:00 p.m.
If the Bills can generate a running game, they could make it interesting. Bears need to show they can beat AFC teams. The Bills aren't a great test, but they did beat Minnesota last week.
DPR: Buffalo 81.0 (16th) - Chicago 65.6 (7th)
YPA: Buffalo 5.80 (21st) - Chicago 7.99 (1st)
RD: Buffalo 103.0 (17th) - Chicago 80.8 (7th)
DYPC: Buffalo 4.1 (T-20th) - Chicago 4.0 (19th)
RO: Buffalo 117.0 (9th) - Chicago 98.0 (21st)
YPC: Buffalo 3.9 (T-14th) - Chicago 3.0 (27th)

Bears 17-13

Cleveland at Carolina 1:00 p.m.
Carolina's offense will continue to improve as Steve Smith progresses. The Panthers ran roughshod over the Saints defense last week. The Browns have been abysmal against the run this season.
DPR: Cleveland 72.9 (11th) - Carolina 92.6 (23rd)
YPA: Cleveland 5.57 (23rd) - Carolina 4.90 (29th)
RD: Cleveland 149.0 (29th) - Carolina 129.8 (23rd)
DYPC: Cleveland 4.8 (T-29th) - Carolina 4.1 (T-20th)
RO: Cleveland 71.0 (28th) - Carolina 110.0 (13th)
YPC: Cleveland 3.0 (T-27th) - Carolina 4.4 (10th)

Panthers 31-10

NY Jets at Jacksonville 4:05 p.m.
The Jags can't afford to lose their 3 straight at home against the Jets. The Jets are a young team and had their heads down after that tough loss to Indy. It will be interesting to see how they respond this Sunday.
DPR: NY Jets 71.0 (10th) - Jacksonville 69.4 (9th)
YPA: NY Jets 7.24 (4th) - Jacksonville 6.02 (18th)
RD: NY Jets 140.5 (25th) - Jacksonville 82.3 (8th)
DYPC: NY Jets 4.3 (23rd) - Jacksonville 3.4 (T-10th)
RO: NY Jets 88.0 (25th) - Jacksonville 103.0 (T-18th)
YPC: NY Jets 3.0 (T-27th) - Jacksonville 3.5 (T-20th)

Jaguars 23-20

Kansas City at Arizona 4:05 p.m.
What's surprising about the Chiefs is their pass defense. It's pretty darn good. Arizona's a mess. KC must win this game to stay competitive. You can't lose gimmies like this when you have SD and Denver in your division. If you remember when these two teams played for the Governor's Cup, you've seen a lot of kickoffs.
DPR: Kansas City 54.6 (3rd) - Arizona 81.6 (17th)
YPA: Kansas City 5.79 (22nd) - Arizona 6.08 (15th)
RD: Kansas City 118.0 (20th) - Arizona 144.5 (27th)
DYPC: Kansas City 3.9 (T-17th) - Arizona 4.7 (T-27th)
RO: Kansas City 127.7 (8th) - Arizona 70.3 (T-30th)
YPC: Kansas City 3.9 (T-14th) - Arizona 2.8 (31st)

Chiefs 20-13

Oakland at San Francisco 4:05 p.m.
The Raiders yards per pass attempt is silly. Robert Gallery is playing like a neo-Mandarich. Frank Gore's fumbles are negating his progress as a feature back. At least Alex Smith is improving, which isn't saying much. Oakland wins their 1st Sunday.
DPR: Oakland 82.3 (18th) - San Francisco 106.7 (30th)
YPA: Oakland 2.37 (32nd) - San Francisco 6.06 (16th)
RD: Oakland 145.3 (28th) - San Francisco 119.3 (21st)
DYPC: Oakland 3.8 (16th) - San Francisco 4.1 (T-20th)
RO: Oakland 106.7 (15th) - San Francisco 112.5 (12th)
YPC: Oakland 4.6 (T-6th) - San Francisco 4.5 (9th)[/b]

Raiders 20-16

Dallas at Philadelphia 4:15 p.m.
The Eagles will need Westbrook for this one. Dallas is good across the board.
DPR: Dallas 65.0 (6th) - Philadelphia 83.7 (20th)
YPA: Dallas 6.84 (7th) - Philadelphia 7.71 (2nd)
RD: Dallas 83.0 (9th) - Philadelphia 94.5 (T-14th)
DYPC: Dallas 3.2 (T-6th) - Philadelphia 3.7 (T-14th)
RO: Dallas 147.7 (5th) - Philadelphia 129.5 (7th)
YPC: Dallas 4.7 (T-4th) - Philadelphia 4.9 (3rd)

Cowboys 28-17

Pittsburgh at San Diego 8:15 p.m.
Chargers are coming off a tough loss of a game they should have won. They return home to face a struggling Steelers offense. If the Bolts lose this one, there will be a death watch for coach Marty.
DPR: Pittsburgh 74.6 (12th) - San Diego 50.2 (2nd)
YPA: Pittsburgh 4.98 (28th) - San Diego 6.72 (9th)
RD: Pittsburgh 78.3 (4th) - San Diego 66.0 (2nd)
DYPC: Pittsburgh 3.2 (T-6th) - San Diego 3.3 (9th)
RO: Pittsburgh 114.0 (11th) - San Diego 195.0 (2nd)
YPC: Pittsburgh 3.8 (T-16th) - San Diego 4.6 (T-6th)

Chargers 16-10

Monday, Oct. 2

Baltimore at Denver 8:30 p.m.
The Ravens defense looks like they turned back the clock to 2000. Their offense is sub par, however. Catching the Broncos after their bye and in Mile High, will likely cause Baltimore to fall from the ranks of the undefeated.
DPR: Baltimore 49.9 (1st) - Denver 79.1 (15th)
YPA: Baltimore 5.06 (26th) - Denver 5.86 (20th)
RD: Baltimore 63.3 (1st) - Denver 106.7 (18th)
DYPC: Baltimore 2.6 (1st) - Denver 3.9 (T-17th)
RO: Baltimore 95.8 (23rd) - Denver 150.0 (4th)
YPC: Baltimore 3.4 (T-22nd) - Denver 4.7 (T-4th)

Broncos 13-10

Open date: Atlanta, Cincinnati, Seattle, Houston

Redskins 37-31

Miami at Houston 1:00 p.m.
You know your defense stinks when you let an aging, struggling QB complete 22 straight passes. That said, Miami was lucky to beat Tennessee last week. Therefore, this isn't going to be an easy win for the Dolphins.
DPR: Miami 93.1 (24th) - Houston 123.5 (31st)
YPA: Miami 5.09 (26th) - Houston 6.11 (16th)
DYPC: Miami 3.4 (8th) - Houston 4.6 (28th)

Dolphins 27-24

Minnesota at Buffalo 1:00 p.m.
The Bills laid an egg in their home opener last week. A promising start to 2006 gets flushed.
DPR: Minnesota 69.2 (10th) - Buffalo 90.2 (22nd)
YPA: Minnesota 6.37 (11th) - Buffalo 5.83 (21st)
DYPC: Minnesota 3.6 (11th) - Buffalo 4.1 (21st)

Vikings 23-13

New Orleans at Carolina 1:00 p.m.
The Saints are for real. The Panthers barely beat a weak Tampa Bay team.
DPR: New Orleans 68.8 (9th) - Carolina 84.0 (18th)
YPA: New Orleans 6.56 (8th) - Carolina 4.81 (29th)
DYPC: New Orleans 4.1 (21st) - Carolina 4.3 (26th)

Saints 24-17

San Diego at Baltimore 1:00 p.m.
No more creme puffs for the Ravens. The Bolts come off a bye.
DPR: San Diego 42.9 (1st) - Baltimore 44.5 (2nd)
YPA: San Diego 7.30 (4th) - Baltimore 5.17 (25th)
DYPC: San Diego 3.6 (11th) - Baltimore 1.8 (1st)

Chargers 17-6

San Francisco at Kansas City 1:00 p.m.
If the Chiefs lose this game, they'll be a revolt. Herm Edwards and Carl Peterson are feeling the heat and Lamar Hunt is lobbying for a new stadium. The 49ers have injuries to TE Vernon Davis and RB Frank Gore.
DPR: San Francisco 100.7 (29th) - Kansas City 68.4 (8th)
YPA: San Francisco 7.04 (6th) - Kansas City 4.65 (30th)
DYPC: San Francisco 4.7 (30th) - Kansas City 3.7 (14th)

Chiefs 14-3

Detroit at St. Louis 4:05 p.m.
The Rams have two impressive victories this year. This one will be underwhelming.
DPR: Detroit 127.3 (32nd) - St. Louis 59.5 (5th)
YPA: Detroit 6.14 (14th) - St. Louis 5.90 (19th)
DYPC: Detroit 2.8 (2nd) - St. Louis 4.5 (27th)

Rams 17-9

Cleveland at Oakland 4:15 p.m.
I wonder if Romeo Crennel wishes he were back with the Patriots. Even Cleveland won't lose this game.
DPR: Cleveland 79.6 (17th) - Oakland 77.0 (14th)
YPA: Cleveland 5.67 (22nd) - Oakland 2.70 (32nd)
DYPC: Cleveland 4.0 (19th) - Oakland 4.2 (24th)

Browns 16-10

New England at Cincinnati 4:15 p.m.
The Pats secondary looks as good as it did last year. That's not good news. The Pats DBs have given up 2 long TD passes in each of their last two games. Moreover, the Pats smallish corners had trouble with Denver's big and tall WRs. With the emergence of Chris Henry, the Pats will face arguably the biggest and best WR corps in the NFL. On the road. The only chance the Pats have of winning this game is to get a rush on Palmer.
DPR: New England 94.0 (26th) - Houston 55.9 (4th)
YPA: New England 6.01 (18th) - Cincinnati 6.25 (13th)
DYPC: New England 3.6 (11th) - Cincinnati 4.1 (21st)

AND, San Fran has to play KC AGAIN!!!

Well, at least my Pack is off! Brett, fresh off a 2 Int, NO TD performance, that SHOULD have been about a 5 or 6 INT perfomance, won't have to play..................

Do we get extra points in FFL then?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say the Bills beat the Bears by 1 with a last second Rian Lindell FG. Final score 13-12

Teams don't run often against the Bears, but that's usually the case when 3 of your wins are blowouts. The question is: when do team's run on the Bears, in the 1st half or the 2nd? If it's the second, then that's bad for Buffalo.

The Bills must establish the run. The Bears CBs are vulnerable, but I don't see the Bills WRs as a big challenge. I think the Bills "D" will come to play. That's why I see this as a close game.

I just noticed that David Carr has the best passer rating in the league. Followed closely by Damon Huard.

Bizzaro NFL!

Re: The NFL: Week# 5

Marcus Stroud (Thank God, he scares the hell out of me against Pennington) is out of the game. Marcellus Wiley and Matt Jones are also out of this game...

Jets will steal it almost completing a fantastic weekend with 2 Yankee wins, a Rangers at Philly win, and a Jet at Jags win...

You can thank the Redskins for beating them up.

Re: The NFL: Week# 5

Terrible throw by Bledsoe seals the win for the Eagles. TO doesn't look too happy about it, that's too bad.
