Just got back from the Thunder Game...

Whoa.

Whatta Game.

Matt Childers went 8 innings. Not especially sharp. Scattered some hits, gave up 6 runs including a 3 run HR to some Baby Tigers guy.

The Thunder were behind all game.

Eric Duncan (0 fer 6 on Sunday) did not play.... a bit disappointing.
Brett Gardner had two hits including a Triple. That guy can flat out fly.
Shelly Duncan can not hit a curve.
Grant Plumly hit a HR.
JT Stotts had a couple of hits.
Jason Brown is ok behind the plate, though not much of an arm. He walked twice. Not much of a hitter either.

Though the Thunder were behind the whole game, they were never out of it. They chipped away and kept things close. Randy Ruiz added a HR as well.

In the 9th, the Thunder were down by a run. Stotts led off with a single. Gardner popped out. Felix Escalona (who looks like he's been eating well) struck out. Randy Ruiz came up with 2 down. Took the first two pitches for strikes. Fouled off 2. Took an inside pitch for ball 1. Fouled one off. The next pitch was way outside.

The next pitch landed on a car windshield (my best guess). The wall from the left field foul pole to Right Center Field is at least 30 feet high. Ruiz hit the ball dead center over the 30 foot wall. It still had a lot of travelling to do when it reached the wall 407 feet away. A monstrous shot for the walk off win.

I read earlier that Eric Duncan saw a doctor today about his back which might explain why he has missed the last couple of games and his recent slump.

There was no explanation at the Ball Park about his absence today. I figured just a day off. This could shed some light.

I can't remember which NY paper I read it in this morning since I read everything from the Ledger to the Times.

Gardner is the one I'm watching the closest because he's my favorite type of player, a speedy leadoff hitter.

While he has blazing speed, I am very impressed with his instints on teh basepaths. He seems to know when to take the extra base, and when not to. He has a good future ahead of him.

Hopefully. But we can never know. But he may be a key ingredient in our persuit for a different, established, player.

they're both CFers and should stay that way, so, if one is on the team the other won't be.

Carl Crawford has 43 stolen bases in 117 games. Jose Reyes has 50 in 117. Would you consider that average speed also?

He made all the plays at 3B. Nothing spectacular stands out. He was 1 for 3 with a walk a HR (a line drive to LF) and scored two runs.

Did he get lucky with the HR (as in barely made it over, short fence, meatball) or did he seem to have a handle on what to do at the plate?

Not a lucky HR. He looked pretty good at the plate.
