Former Yankee Barfield taken to hospital after fight with son

Excerpt: "Former All-Star outfielder Jesse Barfield was taken to a hospital Sunday after he suffered a head injury when he was shoved down a flight of stairs by his 18-year-old son, the Houston Chronicle reported."

I hope he's OK. I saw him do one of the coolest things for a fan once. Before a game in the early 90s back at Old Comiskey Park, I was standing behind the Yankee dugout watching batting practice. Barfield is from near by Joliet, IL and standing next to me there was a young boy (who told me he was also from Joliet) wearing a Barfield jersey yelling at him trying to get his autograph as he was walking toward the cage. Thinking he had been ignored, the kid looked up at his Mom with a pretty sad expression. Minutes later, when he was done taking his cuts, Barfield walked back to the dugout. When he reached the top step he slid his batting practice bat over to the kid, smiled, winked, and walked down the dugout steps. This kid's face just beamed. It was a cool moment. And I bet you to this day, that kid is a Barfield fan.
