Pennant fever killing Yawkey Way birds?

Disease trackers are on the mysterious trail of disoriented and dead birds found along Fenway Park's Yawkey Way.

Officials were alerted by Red Sox security guards and a postal carrier who first noticed one bird, known as a grackle, acting strangely Thursday.

``I have never seen anything like that,'' said postman Ray McGuirk. ``It was walking in circles and tipping to one side like a drunk.''

Fenway Park goes dark now. For a while. No "Sweet Caroline." No "Dirty Water." No "Tessie" sweeping up on the big board while the Dropkick Murphys send everybody home with a smile. The only activity at the yard in the next 11 days will be the Sox grounds crew pondering where to put the World Series logo in the grass behind home plate. Dan Shaughnessy

No, birds affected by Pennant Fever usually don't act in the manner described in the article. I've seen many cases in the Bronx, and these birds don't exhibit the same symptoms. Additionally, its thankfully been a while since the last known cases of Pennant Fever showed up in Boston, so this development would have been quite disturbing had it been true,

From my trained ornithological eye, it seems to be a fairly obvious case of Wild Card Syndrom.

If Manny Ramirez coughed in the locker room during an interview, nufced would make a post about it.

This isn't even about baseball, and I'm not sure what there is left to discuss about it.
