Bob Sheppard, Voice of God, retires (merged)

http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/news/...=.jsp&c_id=nyy

Whew – what a voice, and what a career. I’m sorry he retired, but I feel good that he’s doing much better, health-wise. Every time Jeter is announced, we get to hear the Voice of God, so he’s not truly gone.

The Voice of God officially retires (still alive)

Bob Sheppard has officially called it a career:

http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?...=.jsp&c_id=mlb

I'd like to congratulate him on all his years of work. He was the first voice I ever heard as a kid in Yankee Stadium and though it's been two years, it's very noticeable he's gone. Especially when Jeter bats.

Happy official Retirement!

The thread title scared me real quick (I know I'm not the only one).

Your voice has been missed, and will continue to be missed at the Stadium.

Bob Sheppard .

Re: Bob Sheppard, Voice of God, retires

Bob Sheppard is as much a part of the Yankees legacy as any player who has ever worn that uniform. He's right up there with Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Mantle, Munson and Mattingly.

It's amazing to think that guys like Pete Sheehy, Phil Rizzuto and Mr. Sheppard all enjoyed such lengthy tenures with the Yankees. I really don't think that we'll see that ever again.

Re: Farewell to the Voice of God

Can a mod please change the title to something like "Bob Sheppard retires" as I'm sure I'm not the only one to think something else.

Re: The Voice of God officially retires (still alive)

The thread title freaked me out for a second, but glad to hear the man is doing alright and that he'll be able to enjoy the rest of his life without being pestered by questions of a return. We'll miss you Mr. Sheppard.

I'm so glad I saw the news before I saw this thread title.

He'll be missed... there's no one out there like him.

As long as he stays healthy for as long as possible, I'm fine with his retirement.

Thanks for the memories, Mr. Sheppard!
