Hilligoss Goes on DL, RiverDogs Acquire Two Players 06/28/2007 4:05 PM CHARLESTON, S.C. – The New York Yankees have announced that the Charleston RiverDogs have placed third baseman Mitch Hilligoss on the disabled list with a lower-body injury suffered on June 26 at Savannah. Additionally, the RiverDogs have added infielder Chase Odenreider from Staten Island to replace Hilligoss on the roster. Hilligoss leads all active RiverDogs and is 10th in the South Atlantic League in batting with a .318 average. The 2007 SAL All-Star Game Most Valuable Player also has the league’s second-highest hit total at 94. In the first half of the season, he set a SAL hitting streak record with a 38-game run. Odenreider, a 49th round draft pick out of Creighton in 2006, joins the RiverDogs after playing four games for short-season Staten Island, where he batted .143 (2-for-14) with a home run. In 2006, his first professional season, he batted .254 for the Gulf Coast League Yankees. Charleston also added catcher Brandon Ketron on Wednesday after transferring catcher Brian Baisley from the DL to Staten Island. Ketron comes to Charleston after playing four games with Staten Island, where he went hitless in seven at-bats. He split time in 2006 between the independent Washington Wild Wings of the Frontier League and the GCL Yankees. He batted .330 in 52 games with Washington before signing with the Yankees in August 2006. He played in just three games with the Gulf Coast team, going 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs. Baisley led the RiverDogs in batting with a .341 average through 25 games and had been on the DL since May 23. Charleston has also placed right-handed pitcher Hector Noesi on the disabled list retroactive to June 23, one day after making his last start. Noesi made five starts with the RiverDogs, compiling a 1-1 record and 4.50 ERA. ====== http://riverdogs.com/news/headlines/...rticle_id=1142 Former Citadel closer Link Saunders has signed a free agent contract with the New York Yankees. The relief pitcher from Irmo, SC is currently in training camp in Tampa, awaiting assignment. Saunders finished the 2007 season with a 5-3 record in 26 appearances, accumulating a 3.00 earned run average over 39.0 innings pitched. He struck out 47 while walking only 14 and was credited with seven saves. Saunders is currently in training in Tampa and is awaiting designation to the Staten Island Yankees in the New York-Penn short season A league or to a different minor league franchise. Saunders could also spend the summer in Tampa training and could possibly make an appearance on his favorite mound at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park wearing a Charleston RiverDogs uniform. The right-handed pitcher ended his Bulldog career with 26 saves, tied for second in the school's all-time charts with Donald Morillo, who racked up 26 saves from 1992-1995. |
