As a freshman (2005): Did not join the Wolfpack baseball team until March 26 and did not make his first appearance until April 2, but still made a huge contribution as NC State won every game in which he appeared … Made three appearances out of the bullpen and had a 1.29 ERA with no record in relief … Went 4-0 with a 2.25 ERA as a starter … Allowed more than one earned run in a game just twice in 10 appearances … Struck out five in six scoreless innings of his first start, April 20 at East Carolina, allowing just two hits and three walks in the Wolfpack’s 3-0 win … Started April 29 against seventh-ranked North Carolina and struck out 12 in seven innings of work … The 12 strikeouts were the most by an NC State pitcher since March 5, 2004, when Michael Rogers fanned 12 at San Diego State and the most by an NC State freshman since April 26, 1987, when Preston Woods fanned 13 in a 6-1 loss to Georgia Tech … Combined with Jason Duncan and Joey Devine to strike out 18 Tar Heels that night, the most by NC State ever in an ACC game … Started May 12 at ECU and allowed just two hits, picking up another 3-0 win … Pitched a gem May 25 against eighth-ranked Miami in the first round of the ACC Tournament, allowing one run on six hits with two walks and five strikeouts in seven innings to earn the victory.
Basketball (2004-06): Played in 32 games as a sophomore in 2005-06 … Scored 7.6 points per game, with 3.5 rebounds per contest … Shot .506 from the field, including .333 from three-point range … Scored a season-high 16 points twice, vs. George Washington and North Carolina … Had a season-high seven rebounds four different games … Had five assists vs. Florida State … Played forward and appeared in all 35 games, starting 14 and averaging 7.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.1 blocks and 18.7 minutes-per-game while shooting .806 from the free throw line as a freshman in 2004-05.

Summer league: Played for the Orleans Cardinals of the Cape Cod League in 2006, making six appearances, including two starts … Won his only decision and had a 1.06 ERA … Still was named the No. 2 prospect in the league in a Baseball America poll of scouts, managers and coaches … Left the Cape in early August to fill a vacancy on the USA Baseball staff … Made two appearances for Team USA, including one start. Had no decisions and a 0.00 ERA in four innings of work … Made one appearance in the FISU World Championships, a start vs. Mexico … Allowed one unearned run on one hit in three innings.

High school: Played for coach Mike Cameron at Moeller High School … One of the top high school pitchers in the country, and a two-sport standout for Moeller … Had a career ERA of 1.04, the seventh best in the history of Ohio high school baseball … Helped lead Moeller to a 28-3 record and the Ohio state championship as a senior … Ranked as the No. 18 senior in America by Team One Baseball … Listed as the No. 4 prospect in Ohio for the 2004 draft by Baseball America … Had a perfect 7-0 record with one save and a 0.60 ERA … Worked 47 1/3 innings, and allowed 21 hits and 14 walks while striking out 83 … Went 6-1 with one save and a 1.19 ERA as a junior in 2003, helping Moeller to a 19-7 record and the conference championship … Allowed 31 hits while walking 14 and striking out 63 in 47 innings … Made seven starts and threw four complete games … Was runner-up for Mr. Basketball in Ohio by the Associated Press … Shared Ohio's Division I Player of the Year honors, and was named first-team all-state … Averaged 20.2 points and 6.5 rebounds as a senior … Led conference in scoring and field-goal percentage (.654), and was second in free-throw percentage (.882) … Team went 22-3, losing in the regional finals … Rated the No. 42 prospect nationally by Insiders.com and No. 43 by PrepStars following his senior season.

Baseball America Draft Bio :

SCOUTING REPORT
As an awkward 6-foot-7 16-year-old at Cincinnati's Moeller High, Brackman wasn't considered a top 50 prospect in baseball or basketball. His basketball game blossomed as a senior, and when N.C. State offered him a chance to play both sports, he eagerly accepted. A bout with tendinitis assured he wouldn't be drafted highly enough out of high school to buy him out of college, and after giving up basketball as a sophomore (he had thrown just 77 innings in his first two years at N.C. State), he's begun to come into this own. Now a legitimate 6-foot-10, 240 pounds, his upside is considerable. His athleticism helps him repeat his delivery, but he struggles with his balance and release point, leading to erratic command, especially of his secondary stuff. He touched 99 mph in the Cape Cod League in 2006 and again during an early-season outing in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and he pitches at 94 with exceptional plane. His mid-80s spike-curveball is filthy. Brackman's changeup was the pitch that had improved the most this spring, and grades as a third potential plus offering. He's still unrefined, but even without the polish, Brackman shouldn't slide out of the top 10 picks.

BA 2006 Cape Cod League Top 30

2. Andrew Brackman, rhp, Orleans (North Carolina State) Though Brackman came to North Carolina State on a basketball scholarship, he's expected to give up hoops to focus on baseball. He reminded Cape observers of Chris Young, the former Princeton basketball/baseball star who pitched for Chatham en route to the majors.

Brackman is bigger (7 feet, 245 pounds) and throws much harder than Young. In his last outing with Orleans, his fastball sat at 93-95 mph and touched 98-99. His splitter has a chance to be a plus pitch, and he flashes a tight slider. He also repeats his delivery very well for such a tall pitcher.

"Guys with that wingspan and length out front, that 99 looks like about 105 from his release point," an NL crosschecker said. "He can just overpower you with that fastball alone."

I like his easy delivery and he would be an incredible talent to add to the system but after Sanchez and all the talk about his injury reports being fine this scares me.

I wish all the best to him and I hope they know what theyre doing.

Everyone feel free to add any links to other scouting reports, videos, articles, etc.

Figured it would be good to accumulate as much info in an individual thread for each draftee.

I'm with you. Love the upside and hope he's more of a Joba red flag than a Sanchez. That said, we have some time to fix him.

Looking over his numbers, the hits per inning, walks per inning, 7 HR's allowed in 78 IP, 12 wild pitches and 10 hit batters look VERY ugly. I really hope the Yankees know what their doing and pulling a Bard and get horny over velocity.

Re: Yankees 1st rounder - Andrew Brackman

Kevin Goldstein (2:04:02 PM PST): The Yankees finish up the first round by taking Andrew Brackman. Maybe the Oliver Stone theories were correct, and it really was a big ol' orchestration to drop him to the Yankees -- and maybe not. I don't think I like the pick, even at 30.

BSmith (2:05:35 PM PST): He's fun to watch pitch, I know, but at some point, the results have to matter. The consistency isn't there, the dominance has never been there, and earlier in the year, I wrote about his struggles against 1-5 hitters in the ACC. He is probably going to do well in the low minors, if he's healthy, but I don't see him having much more success than Jon Rauch.

Nardi is going to have a field day making Brackman into a complete pitcher.

The injuries are scary, but Chien-Ming Wang's done well for us despite spending a bit of time on the DL over his career. I think he'll be like the Big Unit, only much more consistent.

Biographical Data

Player Name:Andrew Brackman
Position:Starting Pitcher
School:North Carolina State
School Type:Four-Year College
Academic Class:Junior
Birthdate:12/04/85
Height:6'10"
Weight:230 lbs.
Bats:Right
Throws:Right
Report Date(s):02/09/07
Game(s):William & Mary

Focus Area
Comments
Fastball:Brackman threw his fastballs 92-97 mph, both a two- and four-seamer.
FB Movement:His two-seamer had plus life and was effective in the zone.
Curve:Brackman features a knuckle curve that he throws 78-81 mph. It was inconsistent on Friday, largely because of the cold weather (35 degrees).
Changeup:Brackman threw his changeup in the 82-84 mph zone. It's an average offering he keeps around the strike zone.
Control:Brackman commanded his two-seamer extremely well, hititng the inside part of the plate at will. His command of his breaking stuff was less consistent.
Poise:Brackman competed very well and went right after hitters in his debut.
Physical Description:Big, former basketball player who shows impressive athleticism despite his size.
Medical Update:Healthy.
Strengths:Above-average velocity on his two- and four-seam fastballs, with plus command of the two-seamer.
Weaknesses:Command of his curve. Brackman will need to show he can throw his knuckle curve for strikes more consistently. It's a difficult pitch to command and while hitters in college will swing at it, professional hitters will lay off if it's out of the zone.
Summary:The concern with Brackman heading into his first full season as a baseball player only was how durable he would be. The former basketball standout had never spent an entire college season as a starting pitcher and he ended up being shut down with a tired arm late in the year. Still, the pure stuff, including a 97-mph fastball when he’s 100 percent, intrigues many scouts and despite the inconsistent year, he’s still in the first-round fray as more of a college project than an advanced arm.

Just some more info from MLB.com's enhanced scouting report

If you're being serious, you know you just predicted a guy to be an inncer circle hall of famer?

You do realize that a more consistent Randy Johnson would pretty much be the greatest pitcher of all time.

I don't like the pick, but am glad they went for upside rather than someone like McGeary.

Im not going to pull the RJ card but I will say at age 26, 27,28 RJ walked 120, 152, 144 batters so his walk rates dont concern me much.

Brackman is 21, so he might be an interesting project to go along with Betances.
