Like father, like son

I went to the Trenton @ New Britain game today. As in the Bronx, the final was 5-0 (Trenton). As in the Bronx, there was a bench clearing brawl. In the Trenton brawl, and I'll have to wait until newspaper reports explain what precipitated it, Jason Brown , Trenton backup catcher charged the mound after being buzzed, and actually scored a one punch knockout. Being in the ballpark is often the worst place to get the real scoop, especially minor league parks.

As a bonus here is a picture of starter, and winner Brett Smith (3-0, .90 ERA)

What were the readings on the speed gun for Smith's fastball?

Good question. I'm really curious whats going on with him...and all of the trenton pitchers for that matter. Well I guess Horne and Marquez aren't supprising, but the others are.

I don't trust the New Britain gun at all. FWIW, he topped out at 88 on their gun. It seems the gun was/is low especially on low pitches where Smith was clocked a few times at 74. The 74 did not appear to be a change or breaking ball.

Smith was a bit wild early but never seemed to be in danger of being hit hard. New Britain ,though, seems to be a weak hitting club in a weak hitting division.

I'm confused. Who's father? Jason Brown or Brett Smith? And what did the father do?

Yankees=Father
Trenton Thunder=Son

I think that's what he means.

It seems that when the RockCat player, Luke Hughes, struck out for the third time, he went after the Trenton pitcher, Ramirez, to complain about being thrown a two strike change up instead of a fastball. In the top of the ninth, the Cat pitcher buzzed the Trenton batter, catcher Brown, who then charged the mound. The New Britain manager was guilty of not telling his own team to get over it, or worse, not being aware of what was about to happen.

I don't understand. What's wrong with being thrown a change up?

The NB gun is awful. I hate it. Rocky's pretty damn annoying too.

Lukey is just pissed off that next year he has to go to work at McDonald's making 6.75 an hour.

Maybe he should hold his hand over the plate and say "throw it here!"

Re: Like father, like son

Speaking of the NYY's and the bench clearing...who else saw Bruney leading the pen out there! No way he is the fastest reliever, just the one who wanted to get into a scuffle. With him and Farnsworth's history of spearing people, I think teams should think twice about throwing at our stars. Proctor calling out Betencourt was great too, now add the rocket throwing bat handles at fools...NYY: toughest team to brawl in MLB

Re: Like father, like son

Players should not be allowed to leave the bullpen during a scuffle, period. I understand why the guys in the dugout can leave because it's 1-4 against 9 but why is that the NBA and NHL have strict rules against the non-involved jumping into a brawl (can't leave the bench or you are suspended) but not baseball. The sight of these slow & fat relievers running harder to jump into a scuffle than they do in workouts really irks me. Can anyone honestly say that they are jumping in to be peacemakers? How could they possibly know who is right or wrong from where they are sitting either?

Sorry I had to vent and I hate when this happens in baseball. Even if it's 2 guys mouthing off all of a sudden 10 reliever race in like firemen at a 5 alarm blaze.
