2007 Hope springs eternal, once again

The Quest for #27 begins once again after a terrible 2006.

Well the spring is about over and the decisions have been made as to the opening day roster. I think they had to go with Nieves over Pratt seeing how they seem to believe Nieves is the next catcher after Posada.

I was going to start this thread off by saying how Pavano will be a key wild card component to the success of our starting staff and then Wang goes down and poof, Pavano goes from wild card to opening day pitcher The key to the offense will be how ARod rebounds after last year.

I must admit this was one of the most boring off seasons and st's we have had in awhile. No world baseball, trips to japan, all that other distracting stuff so hopefully it will translate into a good start.

I think the Tigers have elevated themselves to my most hated rival outside Boston. Not only did these classless ... stick it in our face last year but now they have Shef who is showing how classy he really is. Everyone makes an issue about what ARod doesn't do in the post season but the 3 years we had Shef he didn't do anything either and now he slams Torre? What a jerk.

Looking forward to the All-Star break the success of this pitching staff will determine how hard Cashman pursue's Clemens. We need 3 solid, healthy starters and 2 that can at least show up. The number of runs this team is capable of putting up plus a much better defense with Abreu and Doug/Phelps at first should offset any improvements made by Boston, Baltimore and Toronto.

I guess the key to this season rests with one simple word: Health.

GO ANSKY

What was terrible was the last 3 1/2 games in October.

I think we have the talent in the linup to win the East once again. But the only way for us to have a better chance in the Playoffs is to have 4 starters pitch very well come October...and that's not a lock by any means.

Roger and Phil might give us a better chance though.

Just hoping to be able to hear -- The Yankees win...Tha-a-a-a-a-a-a YANKEES WIN #27

I actually really enjoyed 2006 until the postseason. Boston Massacare Part 2 was a roaring good time.

I also thought 2006 was a very good until the end. The team didn't fall apart at the seams when they lost people to injuries and continued to develop some young talent.

Here's to a better ending in 2007.

I also thoroughly enjoyed 2006 until October 7th. Like NewEraYanks2527 said, the Massacre was probably my favorite memory of 2006. Heres to hoping my favorite memory of 2007 is #27.

Agreed that 2006 wasn't awful...just the outcome.

I love how everyone is picking against the Yankees's 10th straight division title based on Pavano being the Opening Day pitcher, like he's supposed to be our ace...it's not like Mussina and Pettitte are on the DL (yet..). It's just that Torre (wisely) didn't want to distrupt their schedules. Although I thought Mussina should have been set up to pitch the Opener for the beginning.

Can't wait for Monday...I wonder how much parking will be this year...last year some lots were $30!!

Will a sixteen ounce beer reach the unheard of $10 mark?

was 2006 so bad, granted it ended with a loss but it was still a fun season.

With all the injuries the team was more fun to watch, we got to root for a guy like melky. It was a good season and was enjoyable to watch, more so then 05 etc.

Re: 2007 Hope springs eternal, once again

2006 was actually a pretty good year I think in terms of the regular season. And other than a few clubhouse cancers that have been removed it really seemed like the team came together brillantly after 2/3 of the starting outfield went down for most of the season. Abreu was a great addition, Melky was a big part of the team and even through injuries Cano really showed there was no sophmore jinx.

Yes of course I look forward to 2007 after '06 ended but really there were a heck of a lot of positives last year and hopefully there will be even more this year. Better pitching (hopefully), more young guns coming up, hopefully a better used pen and starters that go deeper into games. So yea bring on 2007 but 2006 was by no means all bad, it wasn't the nightmare that happend a couple years ago that I am in therapy to repress.

good points.

melky and abreu were great additions to the team. i hope they both continue their solid play. the playoffs sucked but i knew we'd lose to detroit when we decided to play sheff and matsui ahead of melky. matsui was ok, but removing melky was a mistake. he gave the team "something".

Man, I don't know where all this optimism and good feelings are coming from - I mean, for goodness sakes, we are tied for last place right now.

I agree. The 2006 was kinda fun to watch. The best part for me was watching Melky Cabrera begin the maturation process. Quite a difference from 2005 when he got booed out of The Bronx.

The 2006 playoffs, now that was another story...

i still wonder if sheffield and crosby didn't collide, what we would get out of 2005, but oh well...
i really wouldn't consider the best record in MLB a terible season, you have to be an idiot to say that...
it's not the same thing as world series or bust...

Here's how it goes down. Take this to the bank.

Rocket will sign with Houston around the beginning of June and pitch himself into shape, avoid road trips and win his 360th game. In August, the Yankees will be sitting in 2nd place a game or two behind Boston and pull a waiver deal for Clemens, sending a AA pitcher to Houston. Clemens pitches the Yankees to the 27th World Championship and hangs up his spikes for good.

2006 sucked because of the daily ARod drama....I can only hope he has a huge year in 2007 because I cannot deal with that crap again.

Re: 2007 Hope springs eternal, once again

I'm been a Yankee fan since I started baseball in 1994. The 1990s Yankee Dynasty from 1996-2000 is a fun run that lasts a lifetime.

Now, I want to see the Yankees win the World Series so badly in 2007. I want to put all those losses since 2000 to bed for good. I haven't come back and I haven't mentioned them since.

Randy "The Natural" Couture said it best in these two quotes: "It's not what happens to the man. It's what the man does after it happens" and "To win is to grow. But to lose is to find out exactly what you have inside of you and how are you going to comeback from defeat."

It's not the 26 World Championships that drive the New York Yankees in 2007. It's the 27TH in 2007.

A couple of times I muted my TV when A-Rod came up not so much because I was afraid he was going to do bad but because I didn't want to hear the fans boo him if he did do bad.

Re: 2007 Hope springs eternal, once again

2006 was a terrible season for many reasons and our quick departure at the hands of the Tigers was, of course, the primary reason. But the Boston Massacre was great to be sure.

I forgot to mention Andy, after all, the prodigal son returns after a 3 year snit in Houston left him a little more appreciative of NY and his true team. Welcome back Andy. Now pitch. We need to nail #27 before the old stadium goes away.
