Austin Jackson on the 7 day DL for his back. It doesn't look serious just resting him for the playoffs.

What's the deal with Jairo Heredia? Hasn't pitched since August 6 (I think it was the 6th). My guess is that they shut him down due to innings?

He's on the mound for the R-Dogs, so far:

2.0 IP 2 H 0 R 0 ER 0 BB 2 K's | 3-1 GB/FB ratio.

Anyone know why D.J. Mitchell is on the 60 day DL? Yanks love drafting injured pitchers lately. Jeez.

It may have something to do with his contract.

Remember that MLB changed the rule that used to let teams sign a player to a contract starting next year.

For example, under the old rule, a team that signed a guy at the August 15, 2008 deadline could merely have him sign a 2009 contract and not use up his first year (for protection under rule 5 drafts). Now, the player would have to sign a 2008 contract.

However, I know that under a ML contract, you can ask for that year not to count in placed on the 60 DL all year (like Brackman this year). I do not know if it applies to a minor league contract.

Under my guess, if they put Mitchell on the 60 day DL, that would run through October and the end of the season- meaning he would be ineligible to play or be added to a roster. Could this be a way of avoiding having to use up a year of protection? I don't know- but the Yanks have certainly found ways to be creative before.

Your theory is certainly plausible. I would not put it past the Yankees to use this "loophole" if this indeed is what they are trying to do (save a year of protection).

I doubt this strategy would yield an extra year of protection. A guy on the 60 day DL is certainly under contract.

I believe it did stop the clock for Brackman.

Re: 2008 Injury Update Thread

OK guys, I promised you factual information when I had some...

Alan met with Dr. James Andrews yesterday and after a complete hands-on exam and review of MRI/X-Ray pictures, he did a successful scope on Alan's shoulder. He said there was a partial tear of the rotator cuff that he cleaned up along with some fray but was very specific that it was not considered a typical repair where you actually have to tie anything down. Also there was some fray along the labrum which he cleaned up saying that because nothing was considered a complete repair that Alan's recovery should go well. Dr. Andrews went on to say that the issues going on with Alan's shoulder this year would surely prohibit his arm from working the way it can and should, but that this will put him back on track. I would tell you that Alan was very up-beat with Dr. Andrews during this time and is very positive about his recovery. Thank all of you for your support.

Thanks for the update Mr Horne, I'm sure Alan is disappointed with this past season but I'm sure he will be extra motivated to be 100% by ST. I wish him all the best.

Thanks for the info, Mr Horne.

It must have been a relief for Alan to find out what was wrong, and have it fixed, after all these months feeling that something was wrong.

We all wish him a speedy recovery, leading to a great 2009

It's great to hear that Alan finally knows what's going on with his shoulder. I'm sure that's a big relief for him. Hoping for a speedy recovery for him.

That has to be a relief to him.

Good luck with the rehab.
