Nice. It sounds like he could compete with Miranda for 1B, no?

If we move Montero to 1B, hopefully due to Weems/Romine/Cervelli, and not due to any other reason, the competition between these 2 could be something to watch.

Thanks. Sounds like a good one. Hopefully Salcedo is next.

Exactly. Great defense, good eye, and 75 power is elite. I can't imagine the guy is this good at 17.

Re: 2007 International Signing Thread

Just to post what Patrick said exactly over at the PP boards:

Quote:
1B, Raymond Nunez - (Just turned) 17-year old first baseman, bats and throws right-handed. 6-foot-2, 210 pounds. Apparently he's a big kid, reportedly has more power than Kelvin De Leon and a smidge less than Montero - somewhere around 75 power on the 20-80 scout's scale from what I'm told.

Reportedly he's a great defensive first baseman and has a really good eye at the plate. He apparently played in a handful of Dominican Instructs games (after I left obviously) and hit a home run, four doubles, and never struck out. The Yankees signed him for "six figures". I couldn't get an exact figure.

RHP, Harold Garce - 22 years old, from the Dominican Republic, 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds. I know, 22, right? Get this though, apparently he was hitting 98-99 MPH during his tryout!!!

He was a low dollar sign but he's quite projectable. He's never been coached, he's very crude mechanically, but he shows a pretty good curveball already, and he was sitting 95 MPH in the couple of Dominican Instructs games he pitched towards the end.

Imagine how good he could be once Nardi gets a hold of him

No level right now since he just got signed, but I would guess he starts at the GCL next season or maybe even higher.

I for one am excited about the Yankees haul this year. Arodys Vizcaino a 16 year old who compares himself to Pedro. Newman and Nardi are now making the comp after seeing his 94 mph fastball. He also has two other plus pitchers. Jose Mojica is also looking like a nice little 4 tool prospect. Yankees managed to nab Elio de la Rosa, Kelvin De Leon, Henry Pena, Arodys Vizcaino, and Eduardo Sosa who all were considered to be top tier guys in the class.

If you want to know anything about these guys then you should get PP (PinstripesPlus)

They already have some scouting reports on some of these kids and will have more coming.

Here are some:

Kelvin De Leon
Jose Mojica
Eduardo Sosa
