Patriots have signed CB Tory James

Defensive back Tory James has agreed to a one-year contract with the Patriots, according to ESPN's John Clayton.

The bad news is that Tory James had an abysmal 11.0 YPA in 2006. So, don't expect him to cover man-to-man. If you see him in those situations hide your eyes.

Surprised no one's posted this yet...

Sauerbrun a free agent afterall

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2842126

A Special Master ruled Wednesday punter Todd Sauerbrun is now a free agent -- available to sign with any team -- after winning a grievance that voided the New England Patriots right to match a one-year contract he recently signed with the Denver Broncos.
The failure to put the first-right-of-refusal provision in a separate attachment to the contract was the reason the Special Master ruled in favor of Sauerbrun. The case was argued in his behalf by Jeff Kessler, one of the labor lawyers who helped to write the collective bargaining agreement.

I'm surprised that any team would miss out on this seemingly minute but apparently crucial detail

David Thomas apparently suffered a broken foot while training.

Indeed. The liklihood of a TE getting picked just went up. Is Garret Mills a potential contributor? I know he's more of a hybrid than a pure TE.

At least it doesn't appear serious, like a Lisfranc injury. This is a very weak class for TEs. Based on the Pats value/need I wouldn't take one higher than the 6th round.

Re: The Official 2007 New England Patriots Thread

On Friday, the Pats and Oakland nearly pulled the trigger on a deal that would send Moss to the Pats. Oakland backed out last second.

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/articl...PG2OPHGVF1.DTL

NFL Network saying there's a very good chance this deal could happen today.

I don't care what anyone says, this guy is all world talent. He's apparently only willing to restructure his deal with the Pats, and no one else. He wants to play with Brady.

I hope to God this happen.s

I'm with you 100%.

The Pats have much better WRs than last year already, but I still think that Moss makes them a lot better.

Having Moss and Stallworth at the outside WRs, with Welker in the slot, Watson at TE and Maroney, Morris or Faulk in the backfield would be very difficult to defend. Who do you double?

As to their depth, if getting Moss means losing one of Gaffney, Washington or Caldwell, I'm fine with that. I doubt they'll get rid of Washington but he's still all about potential. I liked Gaffney a lot by the end of last season, but the fact remains that he was a street free agent is a good, but not great, WR. And I know it's a little unfair, but I'll never be able to completely forgive and forget Caldwell's two choke/drops in the AFC Championship game. The second one arguably cost the Pats the game and with it, their fourth SB, in my book. Caldwell did some very nice things along the way, and I'll root for him big time if he comes back, but losing him as part of a Moss acquisition wouldn't break me up.

As to Troy Brown and Chad Jackson, I'd like the former back as the 6th WR and all around team player, but I tend to doubt that will happen in any event, and Jackson I assume starts the year on the injured list.

Finally, as to the character issues, if Moss restructures his deal to come to NE, and is surrounded by the veteran coaching staff and players that we Pats fans are lucky enough to have, I really think that the chances are very good that Moss behaves. There is of course serious risk that he doesn't behave, but I think his ability to fracture a lockerroom is a lot lower in NE than other places. Plus, he supposedly wants to be there.

Get it done!

They would be better off with Darrell Jackson who the Niners traded for. I can understand the excitement if you're a Patriots fan, but let him prove himself before you get too excited.

IMO, Randy Moss will disappoint. He's just not that good anymore and he has lost a few steps. Saying that, it's a good trade.
