Re: Is Craig Biggio a HOFer?
The Hall of Fame is supposed to be about greatness. Biggio should not be penalized for not being a household name. If he was a first baseman his offensive numbers would need to be held to a higher standard, but he's not. He came up as a catcher and has played the vast majority of his career as a second baseman, where he not only proved himself with the bat but also earned a reputation as a Gold Glove-caliber fielder. The fact that he has played his entire career with the Astros happens to be a bonus. In my opinion he deserves to get in with out without 3,000 hits.

Re: Is Craig Biggio a HOFer?
Biggio has been an upstanding citizen in the MLB community for a long time. He's also been an outstanding player at his position as well, offensively and defensively. Let's also consider the fact that his offensive position is typically a defensive first, offensive second type position...and also take into account the gigantic ballpark he played in for the duration of his prime....also factor in that he has not had a dip in his production, he to this day, is still a servicable player....then factor in his numbers....he gets in with 2900 hits...but he'll get 3000 anyway...so this debate won't hold much weight this time next year anyway.
In terms of the level system? I don't think this system is really fleshed out and has the kinks worked out to use as a basis of comparison or should be used for this argument. It's not Biggio's fault he plays in Houston, he gets drafted by the Yanks...I doubt we even see a topic like this, at this juncture in Biggio's career. |

Re: Is Craig Biggio a HOFer?
Looking at his numbers, it is a safe bet that he gets into the Hall but was he really a Great player?
He's only had about a half dozen seasons where he was among the best at his position. He was a consistently good player for two decades, I guess there must be something great about that. |

Re: Is Craig Biggio a HOFer?
I think he gets in because he'll have 3,000 hits. He's never been an overwhelming player, just a remarkably consistent, above-average one.

Re: Is Craig Biggio a HOFer?
Abslolutely! He deserves to be in when you consider 3,000 hits and playing at three different positions for so many years. Plus, he's a Seton Hall graduate. |

Re: Is Craig Biggio a HOFer?
it would be horrible if biggio didn't get in, one of the best 2nd basemen to play the game, "character" is also supposed to play a role in who enters that hall (altho i dont think it does), and biggio is one of the best guys to play the game
you never see biggio throw a tantrum, call out his manager, call out teammates, throw his bat and helmet, yell profanities all day, stare at his HR's, etc... |

Didn't he play a part in running Dierker out of town? Still, absolutely, Biggio is a well-deserved Hall of Famer. |
