Robinson Cano - September AL Player of the Month
Congrats Robbie!!
http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/NASAp...=.jsp&c_id=nyy
Cano is AL Player of the Month
Second baseman records .664 slugging percentage for Sept.
In September, players kick it into overdrive in an attempt to push their teams into the playoff hunt. When there's something more on the line -- say, a batting title perhaps, or a division championship -- athletes will excel even more.
Robinson Cano has maintained that he wasn't concerned about being the best hitter in baseball, he was just happy to be able to contribute. That didn't stop the Yankees' second baseman from turning on the heat in September, batting .373 (41-for-110) to win American League Player of the Month accolades.
...snip...
This was Cano's first Player of the Month Award. He edged out Oakland's Frank Thomas (.265, 10 homers, 31 RBIs) in the voting, as well as Twins outfielder Torii Hunter and teammate Alex Rodriguez.Auction League: Bitches Brew - 2006, 2007, 2008 Champs

Congrats to Robbie.
He's quicky becoming one of my favorite players, one of the guys I'm happy to see step into the batters box because I know he can make something happen."Being the captain of the team, he always is there for us, and I appreciate that. He's my friend, my teammate and I love him." ~ Mariano Rivera about Derek Jeter.

I haven't bought a new "number" T-shirt in awhile; I'm starting to think a Cano shirt will be a good investment...
Congratulations, Robbie!

Re: Robinson Cano - September AL Player of the Month
Remember last year when I asked who you would prefer... Brian Roberts or Robinson Cano, and I was chastised for even suggesting the comparison? Now I ask again. Is there ANYBODY who would prefer Brian Roberts, assuming that next year his elbow is back to normal? Next year look for a bit of a lower BA, but considerably more power and perhaps 100 RBIs and maybe a gold glove thrown in. I love this guy. And to think that no one saw him coming in that absolutely putrid minor league system that the Yanks had...

Yeah I remember that. It went something like this: "Lorretta walks more, therefore he's better."

how many Yanks have been players of the week or of the month this year- a few already, despite the losses of Sheff & Matsui.

A-Rod and Jason won a month this season. If Derek didn't, I don't know how, but I don't seem to remember him doing so.

What an amazing run for Cano. He's been an RBI beast, driving them in left and right. Hopefully he'll hit another bases-clearing double or two in the playoffs
.
Studying for the USMLE Step 2 Exam, but still cheering hard for the Yankees.

No surprise. He deserved it.
“I mean, people knew that Brown was out there, and that Randy was ornery all the time. And Pavano is whoever he is. But if you’re their manager, you can’t go out and write about them like that.”

The Yanks are so deep that their postseason #9 hitter is the reigning player of the month. Not to gloat or anything....but....

Re: Robinson Cano - September AL Player of the Month
Roberts did have a very good season in 2005, there is no shame in anyone thinking Cano would not approach that level, considering professional scouts and analysts (including the Yankees) also did not. Not that I'm skeptical, but it is very difficult to hit for high average/high power in baseball, I'd like to see another similar season from Cano (as you mentioned, with a likely lower BA, and more slugging and walks too). As far as a GG, he still needs to hurdle superior defensive players like Roberts & Ellis, amongst others.

Robbie Cano is very cool....Welcome to NYYFans, the place where Yankees fans come together to complain about the manner in which our team is winning games.
