    Rays still need bats.
40 pitchers, ever, have an ERA+ of 130 or higher for their career. 15 have 140 or higher. 3 guys have 150 or higher - one is right at 150, the second place guy is at 154, and Mariano Rivera is at 205.

All things considered (inc. salary), if you were Tampa, would you trade Shields over Niemann or Davis?

Shields should bring back way more than either of them. they need a star bat in their lineup to go with longoria and I don't think you pull one with Davis or niemann.

The Rays will also soon need to start ponying up for some of these guys, or not. Price and Upton would be first, then Longos contract will be up.

I think there's 0 chance that Upton remains a Ray and that doesn't just have to do with money.

Kinda funny (not really) how Brackman makes his debut on the same night where Moore makes his first start. What could have been

The Rays have options on Longoria until 2016

    Re: Another team's prospects thread

They could trade Davis and Shields (separate deals) and insert Cobb and Moore. Could also trade Cobb. I can't think of many premium/cheap bats they could get in return, though.

    Alonso? Brown?

They need a catcher, Yamani Grandal of the Reds? Reds should be able to deal him for some pitching.

How do Erlin and Weiland compare to Kelly, Rizzo and the other guy the Padres got for Gonzalez?

Pirates prospect Gerrit Cole, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 Draft, gave up three runs on three hits over 2 1/3 innings in his professional debut for Mesa. He walked one and struck out two, reaching 100 mph with his fastball

    Really good news:

Red Sox minor leaguer Ryan Westmoreland will face live pitching in games in the Dominican Instructional League later this week. It will be the first time that Westmoreland, 21, has played in a game since undergoing surgery to remove a cavernous malformation in his brain stem on March 16, 2010.
