Another team's prospects thread
I couldn't find a thread for talking about another team's prospects. I didn't want to put this in the All purpose thread because that is for the Yankees.
http://www.baseballamerica.com/today...ws/262103.html
I'll take this guy. Maybe we can work out a deal.
Sometimes a change of scenary is good for a player.

Re: Another team's prospects thread
No way! Serious head case. The Yanks should stay FAR away from him. Would not fit in with their clubhouse. When was the last time any player like this stuck with the Yankees?

He's 22 years old. He has too much talent to give up on. If I remember Sheffield had his problems with authority when he was coming up.

Re: Another team's prospects thread
It is foolish to even try to deny the talent level that is in this guy. Top shelf talent. World class talent. Multi-million dollar talent.
But it is in a human being who has a 10 cent brain. Pass.

I'll take him. I'd trade Duncan and Melky for him.

Re: Another team's prospects thread
Who is the kid that the Devil Rays just reactivated? The one who was out with drug problems? The blogger who did In George We Trust and now does Baby Bombers loves that kid, but I'd guess that it's too late to get him.
Given the number of veteran players at Columbus, if the Rays release him, I'd take a flyer. There's already a bunch of players there who are often labelled bad clubhouse guys and yet Melky, Cano, Wang and Philips have all come up and done passable to extremely well.

Re: Another team's prospects thread
Toe Nash's tools were exaggerated and he lied about his age by a lot if i'm not mistaken. Toe Nash also was a felon if i'm not mistaken. This guy argued balls and strikes, lets hold off on the life sentance please. Unlike Nash Dukes has played pro ball and played it well. Get him. Who cares if he's a jerk, let him play a year or half a year and be a good citizen and then trade him or use him until you can trade him.

Toe Nash? Are you kidding me. Dukes is one of the best outfield prospects in league. You are comparing someone who is excelling in AAA to someone who never made it out of rookie ball. Come on? If you want to not trade for him because of his off-field issue so be it, but don't compare him to Toe Nash. Dukes has serious talent. Sheffield has issue when he was coming up and he turned out great. When a player has talent like this you can't ignore it.

Re: Another team's prospects thread
Did we pass on Dwight Gooden? What about Darryl Strawberry? How many chances did we give to Steve Howe? I don't see the Phillies cutting Brett Myers anytime soon for what he did. And those guys where grown adults. This guy is still a kid.

Re: Another team's prospects thread
That's the one. Well, hopefully if Dukes gets released, the Yankees will swoop in. I'd say trade for, but you who would we be okay giving up for him in light of how greedy the Rays are when it comes to trading prospects and other young talent?

Re: Another team's prospects thread
Someone needs to go back and read again. I didn't compare him to Nash. I said people use to say the same things. Look at the tools. Look at the talent. He is so talented that the good outweighs the bad. Dukes is a headcase. Obviously the Devils Rays feel he is a problem since they now have suspended twice this year. And apparently despite this awesome talent, they won’t even play him ahead of the immortal Damon Hollins who is having a Tony Womack-like season.

Re: Another team's prospects thread
The Devil Rays have done a terrible job with their talent. Not to mention that they seem to be using him as a scapegoat for the actions of his more highly touted teammates. The reason the Nash comparison is ludicrous is that Dukes has those same amazing tools and...*gasp*...performance all the way up to the highest level of minor league baseball that backs that talent. Nash was all scouting reports.

Re: Another team's prospects thread
Also i saw that the RS 27th first round pick Jason Place went 0-5 with 5 SO's, I know he is young and you can't judge a young player like that, but not even Jon Potterson could do that!!!

Re: Another team's prospects thread
Id say looking at all the problems that Tampa Bay has with numerous prospects something is obviously wrong with their minor league system. Maybe getting Dukes away from that enviroment will prove to be beneficial to his development and allow him to be a productive major leaguer.

Re: Another team's prospects thread
Maybe it's not their system and simply the players. Perhaps their scouting on the makeup of players is poor or they disregard such reports and have just ended up with several bad apples. Either way, it doesn't do much for the outside look of the organization.
