You can guage Matsui's return by whatever Brian Cashman does at the trade deadline. The August series with Boston is absolutely critical to the season right now. The betting in the front office is that the Yankees must win the division in order to make the post-season. If Cashman believes that Matsui can't play in the Boston series, he'll pull the trigger on a big move like Abreu. If he believes Matsui will play in the Boston series, he'll acquire a pitcher.

Although matsui is a average outfielder, he has very good judgement on balls boucing of walls in LF and there is no need for him to learn a new position.

Does he seriously imagine that whether we win or lose in the Boston series is going to hinge on whether or not Matsui is in the lineup?
