I think Matt Harvey is going to be a major league pitcher, maybe an ace, one day. He looks like the real deal. Too bad Curt Schilling said he had a man crush on him during Baseball Tonight last night. Bad image.

Harvey, Wheeler, Syndergaard. Exciting if you're a Mets fan.

There's potential there for the future, but still a complete rebuild sucks. This year is a write off too, the Mets are off to a good start but you just know they're going to eventually tail off. Bay & Santana come off the books almost completely next year (8.5 mil in payments due), so the Wilpons have absolutely no excuse not to go out and sign some real free agent talent to fill those holes. I think 2015 is the best shot at a postseason run

Lately, I've been paying more attention to the Mets than I have in years. With the direction that Cashman and Hal have taken the Yanks, the Mets have a golden opportunity to own this town in a couple of years. Too bad they're stuck with shady and inept ownership, but they sure have the youngsters and potential to make things interesting (gotta love their pitching prospects and d'Arnaud), while the failing Yankee farm system and player development will produce the next wave of disappointing "killer" Bs to hang their hopes on....or trade true prospects away for some aging, fading star or bad contract.

Not that I'll ever change my allegiance, but I'm one of those New Yorkers that don't root against them.

Knew it from last season that he has truth ... just overpowering stuff.

Maybe we can sign him in a few years

MiLB.com: I read that you grew up a Yankees fan. What are some of your very earliest baseball memories?

Harvey: I remember going to games, whether it was sitting in the outfield or somewhere behind home plate. My favorite player growing up was Paul O'Neill, and I remember some of the games when they started chanting his name when he hit two home runs. I just loved the way he played. Hearing the crowd cheer his name was something I always remembered.

Chose SNY and Harvey over YES and our future ace...err, dud, and can't say I was disappointed. Harvey is a legitimate stud and his stuff is downright filthy, even when he doesn't find his upper 90's FB till the middle innings in that Minnesota cold - he averaged over 95 mph and topped out at a measly (for him) 98. And, he does it so effortlessly. Even if you're a Yankee fan it's treat to watch prospects/future stars like this grow up and make it NY. It'll certainly get me out to Citi Field on a day that he pitches.

If the Mets do not have any snowouts in Denver this week, it is looking like Harvey v. Strasburg on Friday night at Citi Field.

Wow. What an incredibly awesome matchup. Too bad I won't be able to make this one.

Edit: today's game was postponed. I wonder how this affects his start on Fri.

Matt Harvey named NL pitcher of the month for April. I do like this kid.

Not to be "that guy", but I was sure the Yankees were taking him with their 1st pick back in 2007.

That was a good call by you. Who knows, maybe the Yanks would have interested him over the Angels. Given the Yankee's less than stellar draft history, the probably didn't even have the foresight, though, in all fairness, lots of other clubs let him slip to 3rd. The mighty Brackman, one of the Killer Bs (busts), went 1st that year.

By the way, Harvey was one infield single away from being perfect tonight.

He'd be wasting away in the bullpen if he was a Yankee.

I heard some kind of squawk about Harvey getting permission from the Mets to skip their game tonight and go watch the Rangers at the MSG instead.

If only that were true. The Yankees picked at number 30 in the 2007 draft and the Angels picked number 58 in the draft in 2007 (must have traded a draft pick to someone). When the Angels drafted him at 58 they didn't offer him enough money so he told them he would go to college instead.
The Mets ended up drafting him no. 7 in 2010. I assume the Yanks could have drafted him in 2008 or 2009 and asked him to leave college early? He ended up leaving after his junior year for the Mets.

This is true. And, some kind of "Harvey Rule" would be in effect, only to damage his arm as he shuffles back and forth from the pen to the rotation. He'd also have a couple of injury and surgery rehabs by now, delayed by the initial prognosis that rest would be the best course of action.

Nope. A player that chooses to go to college is not eligible for the draft until after their junior year.
