Re: The New York Mets Thread
Actually my point was more that he found his career at age 37. Other than breaking in last year he really was a relatively unknown player. Now he's a Cy Young candidate. As for being a knuckleballer I know they defy age. But his is a power knuckler, so we'll see if it lasts. But while he is dealing, good for him.
I'm sure he has. And I bet you got him cheap too.NYYFans Fantasy Baseball

Re: The New York Mets Thread
Oh, OK. I haven't studied knuckleballers much, but they call it the "butterfly pitch". It's soft, so that if someone hits you with it, it may as well be the curve or something.
I once remember a thread on another board about the knuckler. Some catcher asked how to catch one, and the reply was to let it drop on the floor, then pick it up.
I remember Boston traded away some backup catcher whose specialty was catching Wakefield. Then they reacquired him.
Hey, guess which ex-Yankee threw a knuckler? Not that he'd be caught doing this that often ... especially from the hot corner.

Cray.Bill James Game Score is a metric that rates starts on a 0-100 scoring scale, based on a pitchers innings pitched, runs, hits, strikeouts, and walks (49 is MLB Average, 100+ is extremely rare).R.A. Dickeyhad a Game Score of 95 last Wednesday with his 12-K, 1-hit CG, and had a Game Score of 96 tonight with his 13-K, 1-hit CG. He is the first pitcher in the Live Ball Era with consecutive starts with a Game Score of 95+ in a single season.

Re: The New York Mets Thread
It's not that bad, it's definitely a world championship caliber team if you had them when their careers were going well.
And while Seaver is the only current HOF, Piazza will be.
Strawberry was definitely a HOF talent while he was with the Mets.
On a separate note, RA Dickey's amazing run and amazing season continues with his next start against the Yankees!
How about the clock strikes midnight for Cinderella Man!I used to think I was crazy... Now I am sure of it..

RA Dickey's book is now #72 on Amazon's best seller list:

Funny part is at the beginning of the book, he states that he's just a regular pitcher that will never win 300 games, go to the hall of fame, or lead the league in strikeouts. Well he leads the league as of last night lol

Yeah I have to agree. As a hitter Piazza was scary.

Re: The New York Mets Thread
Tommie Agee also passed on a few years ago. Oh yeah, if someone says "Kooz", they're referring to LHP Jerry Koosman, who was the lefty of hte lefty-right combo, along with The Franchise, Tom Terrific.
Davey Johnson played for the losing Orioles in '69, managed the Mets in '86. Bud Harrelson (who co-founded the independent Long Island Ducks) played for the '69 Mets and was a coach for them in '86.
