Thread: The New York Mets Thread

Re: The New York Mets Thread
I would love to see the Mets hang on, and have to play Philadelphia in a tie breaker on Monday, and then have to play another team for another tie breaker in another city for the wild card, and then get into the playoffs.
may you live in interesting times!

Re: The New York Mets Thread
The Mets' season could be over by 7:00 tonight. All it will take is wins by the Marlins and Phillies again. Also, with one Mets loss or Padres win, the Mets are eliminated from the wild card. The Mets do not control their own destiny.

I'll be listening to the Mets game on the radio today since I don't get SNY. Is there any channel where I can get highlights (or lowlights) of the game while it's happening? Maybe ESPNews? Or will they be all footballfootballfootball?

Re: The New York Mets Thread
I'm a Mets fan, but the 04 ALCS produced suffering in a class of its own. This is nothing compared to that.

This is what I don't understand. The mets are 1 game back. If Philly wins today, are the Mets done, or do they still have a chance to catch SD for the WC. If Philly wins today, and the Mets win both today and tomorrow, are the Mets still alive?

Met's fans might not want to look at Baseball Prospectus's Post-Season Odds section.
http://www.baseballprospectus.com/st...cs/ps_odds.php
The Mets have dropped from a 99.8% chance of making the playoffs on September 13th to 21.02% chance after last night.
In other words, did anyone own any Enron stock about two weeks before the scandal hit. Same concept.

If the Mets end up tied with Philly after tomorrow, and it is for the last playoff spot, the head-to-head record does not come into play. There will need to be a playoff game.

A Met loss, a Philly win, and a Padre win eliminates the Mets today.

Don't know if it's been posted yet, but I thought this was quite funny.

Re: The New York Mets Thread
Actually in that scenario the Padres loss is unnecessary. A Mets loss and the WC is gone.

Actually there was no suffering, we were too numb to feel anything.

5-0 Mets in the 3rd. Looks like the Phillies will have to win today.
Make that 7-0. This game looks to be over."They're going to send me back to Omaha, and I don't even live there." - Rube Baker

Re: The New York Mets Thread
Blowing a 7 game lead with 17 left to play is harder than losing 4 straight. Its possible to have a few bad breaks like the Yankees did in Games 4 and 5 and let that spiral into a slump while the other team gains momentum. However blowing a 7 game lead with 17 left to play, that is unreal, and should be nearly impossible. The Yankees went 3-0 in 3 games and then 0-4. The Mets went 4-11 and started with an 0-5 after after going 83-62, 20 games over and being considered the team to beat in the NL.

Re: The New York Mets Thread
Since blowing a 3-0 lead had never happened before in the history of baseball, you'd be hard pressed to explain it away as being "possible" vs. "nearly impossible". You're talking over 100 years of postseason baseball. And it's only happened once. This Mets collapse is on even par with the Yankees losing in 2004 in terms of rarity.
