Has anyone ever seen anything more brutal than tonight's ESPY Awards (aka the Will Ferrell promo spot). Talk about wasting a chunck of one's life.....

I caught the beginning before Entourage and I enjoyed Lance Armstrong's monologue. Once 10pm struck though I turned it off I will catch one of the 98,000 replays.

What else made it bad so I know ahead of time?

I didn't mind it. Lance was good, Will was funny. Stiller was funny too.

I think the show was pretty good. Lance did an excellent job as ESPY host. I thought the feature on Ricky Bobby was well received as there was a lot of laughter from the crowd. Personally I found the Ricky Bobby feature hilarious but I'm a big Will Ferrell fan. Ferrell's serenade of Lance was also funny. I like Ben Stiller but he is bashed for overdoing things at shows like this, but I think he was entertaining too.

Will Ferrell funny? The man is an absolute stiff and about as unfunny as they come. But, maybe if you liked him, that explains why you’d like the rest of that schlock. I found it all in embarrassingly poor taste and about as bring as humanly possible. Nothing much funny, but, then, since when is a sports award show supposed to be a comedy review? Mix terribly written presenter lines with stuff like an offensively pretentious and faked emotional read-it-off-the-cue cards introduction by Ashlee Judd of a 15 minute documentary about women’s soccer in Afghanistan, to Shaun White repeating and re-repeating tired schtick about tripping over his tongue while presenting with Carmen Electra, to a shameless 15 minute commercial for Ferrell’s movie right in the middle of the show, and you have a scintillating display (make that s steaming pile-o-dung). ESPN programming at its finest. Somebody should have won the award as the producer who most deserves to be shot.

What I don't understand is why you started a thread for something that you hated.

What I don't understand is why you have to like something to start a thread about that topic. If that were a requirement, I suppose the number of threads on this site would be cut by by about 25%.

My opinion is that the show was very weak and, as a larger point, represents the typical production value of ESPN "entertainment" programming. While you are certainly welcome to agree or disagree with the opinion, whether or not a thread should be started regarding the point does not require your understanding, as it were.

Actually, I think it was called the performance of the year, or something such. It was one redeeming feature of the show. The "play" was the catch made in the end zone by that receiver from Alabama (at least I think it was Alabama)

By the way, the fact that Chris Paul won the breakout performance award is a disgrace. Alexander Ovechkin should have won that thing easily.

I saw a little bit the opening and he was pretty good.

I thought I was watching a rerun though since in the past week or so I've read about who some of the winners were. Do they always release the winners before they air the show?

the 2 afgan girls and the autistic boy touched me a lot. Great stories. Some of the acts were pretty lame.

I didn't watch much, but I caught the part where the autistic kid won the award. That was awesome. I have a nephew who will be 3 in September who is autistic (he was born at 24 weeks), so I was pulling for that kid and it was great to see. He had a great speech, too. Loved the "thank you GOD" at the end. It was weird how the dust storm rolled through the house here during his acceptance speech, though.
