What the hell are we waiting for?? This guy just gets too comfortable in the box. We have all said this and yet we don't brush this guy back.

Again, Farns should have been pitching.

It's obviously not going to happen any time soon.

Agreed. You dont bean anyone to put a runner on for Manny. However. For the past few seasons, we've tried pitching around him and we've tried getting him out and none of it works. It is definitely about time that somebody on our team tries to establish control of the plate by buzzing him up and in and hoping to get his focus off a little. Nothing else has worked, this is worth a try.

Re: When is someone going bean Big Papi???
All drilling him does is put him on, advance runners, and bring Ramirez to the plate.
He is a fantastic hitter, and I think to minimize damage, folks need to keep other batters off the bases, so he can only hit a solo shot.

Re: When is someone going bean Big Papi???
I don't want to beam him, I don't believe in giving the other team base-runners but I would like to see him at least eat dirt. Even if he gets up and hits it 450 feet at least show something against him. But like Joe managed in game 6 of the 2004 ALCS, it wouldn't be "classy".

Re: When is someone going bean Big Papi???
He's a great hitter and so is Manny, but nobody else in their lineup really worries me. We just cannot afford to walk their average hitters and allow their lineup to turn over and put guys on base for those two. And I honestly don't think him getting beaned would do much but piss him off.

Re: When is someone going bean Big Papi???
beaning him because he hits us is as about as claslees as it gets(see arod) That is reason enough why we shouldnt and will not do it

Re: When is someone going bean Big Papi???
Bean him then once he is on first Throw a pickoff aimed straight at him and bean him again.

Don't hit him. Just make him sit down hard.

Hitting a hitter who is comfortably leaning over the plate while owning your pitchers isnt bush league. It is a pitchers way of cooling down a hitter. And apparently Ortiz is aware of this as he wears plenty of Kevlar up to the plate.

Re: When is someone going bean Big Papi???
Again, beaning him is not the answer. Brushing him back, making him feel a little uncomfortable up there and sending him a message that the pitcher owns the plate is not bush. Its something that a lot of very good pitchers used to do and no one does anymore, but is an effective way of pitching. Sometimes doing all you can to win is more important than staying classy.

Re: When is someone going bean Big Papi???
How does hitting him make us look bush league? It's been apart of the game for years. I support hitting Ortiz. I don't support beaning him in the head or anything like that, but put the guy on his ass. He crowds the plate and hits without a care in the world. Brush him off the plate and if he continues to crowd, plant one right in the small of his back.

Re: When is someone going bean Big Papi???
OK I'll take that. I hope Farnsworth is up to the task since I feel he is the only one that can do it.

Re: When is someone going bean Big Papi???
I wouldn't want to see big Poopy get beaned. Leave those to the Tampa Devil Rays. What I'd like to see is him struckout consistently especially in tight situations.
Beaning him isn't going to win games.

Re: When is someone going bean Big Papi???
David Ortiz is just a home run machine. I'd go for walking him. You just know that he is going to jack one in atight situation. He is just that good.
What we can appreciate now is that the Yankees from 1996-2003 were even more extraordinary than we thought.

Re: When is someone going bean Big Papi???
It hasn't been tried before, so how would we know. What I do know is that Ortiz gets pissed if he doesn't get a borderline pitch and then usually ................s the bed in that AB. Why not brush him off the plate? It's the pitchers responsibility to establish the plate. Not only does it make it easier to hit, but it minimizes the strike zone.
