    Here's more:

    http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/9959440/atlanta-braves-leaving-turner-field-relocating-cobb-county-2017

The real reason has got to be this:

The infrastructure at Turner Field was originally built for the 1996 Summer Olympics before being converted to a baseball park that opened in 1997.
You see, it wasn't really built to be a baseball park. It was an Olympic park and as we all know, you just can't get the same fan experience in an Olympic park that you would get in a real baseball park. That must be it.

Turner Field needs $150 million in infrastructure work alone (replacing the seats, repairing and upgrading lighting, etc.), none of which would significantly enhance the fan experience.

If the Braves were to pay for additional projects focused on improving the fan experience, the additional costs could exceed $200 million.

Our new stadium will remain in the metro Atlanta area, just miles from the existing stadium with enhanced connectivity, increased access to major roads and more parking.
Turner Field is a facility that was built for three weeks of use for the Olympics, but has now served us well for nearly 20 years. The issue isnít the Turner Field we play in today, but instead whether or not the venue can remain viable for another 20 to 30 years.
Not my money so I don't really care, but I do see their point (without doing any research to fact check what they're saying of course).

The red dots are season ticket holders so putting the new stadium where they are makes sense.

So instead of "If you build it they will come", it's "They will come if you build it near them"

But those people are already coming. They obviously don't need the incentive of a closer stadium. You'd think the Braves would want to use the move to bring in new fans, not just the old ones.

Good move by the Twins. They should have done that a couple of years ago.

I think it was the other way around. People with the Olympics complained that it wasn't a standard track & field venue and that things were designed so that the place would be suited for baseball once converted

I could see why the Braves would do it. Pay a similar amount of money to have a new park in a more affluent area. It's Cobb County that's being stupid.

First, it's the Falcons building a new stadium to replace the Georgia Dome and now the Braves are moving to Cobb County for a new ballpark even though Turner Field is still in great shape.

I get why the Falcons want to build a new stadium: Arthur Blank and the Falcons brass want their new building as part of the Super Bowl cycle and a possible Major League Soccer franchise with also a chance to be one of the stadiums selected for a future FIFA World Cup venue if the U.S. hosts it again.

The Braves? Let me see...reasonable capacity of 41,000-42,000, hotbed of fans living in the Cobb County area. Potential problems? Traffic from for fans living in downtown Atlanta.

Just read that a writer in San Diego gave his first place vote to Shelby Miller. In what universe could you justify giving a vote to Miller over Fernandez? What a joke. Sportswriters should have the vote taken away.

Eh. I don't really care if every single vote is correct, or even justifiable. As a group - which is all that matters - the sportswriters came up with the right answer. Any largish voting group will have some bad votes, but that shouldn't disqualify the group.

The Georgia Dome opened in 1992. Turner Field in 1996. Why should taxpayers pay for two new stadiums when the ones they have aren't that old?

I can almost understand the Braves' reasoning, but the Falcons play 10 times a year. Even if it's not working out perfectly for them, the other 25-30 times the Georgia Dome is used, there's no problems. Not worth $400 million in taxpayer money.
