Posey was a SS in college. I could easily see Posey transition to 1B (which he already plays about 25 times a year) or even 2B (a-la Craig Biggo) within the next 3-5 years.

Mauer is already playing 1B. Are these young catchers so soft that they can't play catcher 3-4 years into their careers. Posada and Irod but shake their heads at the thought of moving from behind the plate so early.

The Rangers and Elvis Andrus agree to $120 million, 8 year extension.

I wonder what the Rangers next move is with Andrus locked up for so long.

Pretty decent offensive player and improving every year, great defender at the most important position on the field, and he's still extremely young. I think it's a good deal having him locked up for 10 years at about $13m per year although Andrus does have an opt out after '18.

    He's not worth 15m a year.

His free agency years are absolutely worth $15M especially considering the TV money in baseball today. Contracts are going to explode even more for top tier players.

If this has been posted before, I apologize.

This is Glenn Donnellan - a violinist with the National Symphony Orchestra. He made a "batolin" from a Louisville Slugger and has played The National Anthem a few times at Nats Stadium. It is a blast to hear this guy play a baseball bat.

Re: Interesting Baseball News Items That Do Not Warrant Their Own Thread

A couple of different options for the Rangers

So what does it mean for Jurickson Profar and the infield situation? Well, it increases the club's options. Now that Andrus is signed up for the long haul, the team can consider dealing Profar for a big-time player -- think Giancarlo Stanton or David Price, for example -- without the worry that they might not have a shortstop if they do. Profar is a valuable asset, considered by many to be the top prospect in the game. If you trade him, it has to be for something big. Perhaps that's at the trade deadline or next winter.

The Rangers could, of course, keep Profar in the organization. They could consider moving Ian Kinsler to the outfield or first base (if Mitch Moreland struggles) and put Profar at second base. Maybe that's some point this season or more likely after this season. But it would put Profar in the infield and allow him to grow and see what he can do.

Crawford isn't hurt, according to Mattingly. Would have rested today even if #SFGiants weren't starting a left-hander.

I agree. Sure he's slick with the glove but he's a career 83 OPS+ hitter with declining SB skills at a young age.

Add to the fact that he can void it if he beomes more than a $15M player in 4 years but rangers are stuck with him if this is his offensive peak and I think it's a terrible contract for Texas.

How ? So far he's been an anemic hitter playing in a hitters park. Since when defensive only players get 15m a year ?
