You can't be serious.

He injured his elbow last year diving for a ball. If anything, the team probably mishandled/misdiagnosed the issues, as he had three start/stop rehab program botched before going under the knife to remove a bone chip in the elbow.

Once again, the two seasons prior to that he played in 150 games.

Travis Hafner is a guy that "can't stay on the field." Brett Gardner has not proven to be that type of player, and it's disingenuous at best (downright dumb at worst) to paint him with that brush. But hey, it fits your narrative. Were you one of the posters that thought Gardner was (is?) a 4OF for a bad team?

We'll have to ask Nick Johnson if bone injuries qualify a player as fragile. Both Johnson and Gardner have had their share.

PHOENIX — Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Mat Gamel has torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee for the second time in less than a year and will miss the season.

The 27-year-old was injured May 1 at San Diego when he hit a wall while chasing Nick Hundley’s foul popup, cutting short his season after 21 games. Gamel reinjured the knee Saturday during Milwaukee’s first full-squad workout this year.

An MRI Sunday revealed the extent of the injury.

“It’s a tear of the middle portion of the repair, “There are failures — 10 percent seems to be the historical number. But of those failures, they’re mostly at either end” of the ligament.

Ash said Gamel’s knee checked out fine in late January in Milwaukee and again during a spring training physical on Feb. 12.

The unhappy outfielder, owed $5.9 million in the final season of his contract, was placed on unconditional-release waivers Monday after agreeing to defer his salary for 12 years. It will compound at an 8 percent annual rate.

"It was a distraction and a problem we needed to address this off-season," Mets General Manager Steve Phillips said.

Bonilla, 36, will receive 25 equal payments of $1,193,248.20 each July 1 from 2011 to 2035, according to the revised contract, a total of $29,831,205.
