I wonder if he strained it catching a pop up to the mound by sticking his glove way out to the side like a cocky DB.

But, even with all the wildness, Halladay only gave up one run that inning.Since the 2000 season, Roy Halladay has been the biggest control freak in the majors, issuing a league-low 404 unintentional walks among pitchers who logged at least 2,000 innings. That was before Saturday night, when the Philadelphia Phillies ace lost his command like he never had before.
In the second inning against the San Diego Padres, Halladay walked three batters in a row for the first time in his career, which spanned 10,447 batters coming in. All of those batters, all of those pitches, and not once had three guys in a row reached via the base on balls.
Halladay came in having walked four batters on the season in 23 innings, and only seven times in his career had he walked as many as three men in one inning, most recently in 2004. But never had three in a row reached on walks until Yonder Alonso, Cameron Maybin and Jason Bartlett did on a total of 19 pitches, reporter Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer writes.

Interesting article about the new baseball economy
Texas and Anaheim became superpowers because of new TV deals. The Reds, whose market is roughly the size of Kansas City's, could extend Joey Votto because their new TV deal is double that of the Royals'. Houston, San Diego, Arizona and Detroit are about to become the game's nouveau riche with big, fat deals on the horizon, and the Mariners and Nationals are in play for new local TV contracts, too.

I had read earlier that Delmon Young was arrested for some kind of fight outside a hotel last night/this a.m. in Manhattan. Seems now that he is being charged with some kind of hate crime: http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/stor...harge-new-york
That ought to go over well at the Stadium if/when he's in the line-up.27 World Championships

It's actually an interesting article, although in light of his brother's actions earlier today, "bail money" might be the obvious comment. The man possessing the only known perfect-condition rookie cards of Roberto Clemente, Stan Musial, Pete Rose, Reggie Jackson and many other luminaries was known during his 13-year playing career as "Da Meat Hook." He's Dmitri Young, slimmed down, smiling and back in Camarillo, the farm-flecked suburb of Los Angeles where he grew up.
All these years, hardly anyone knew that a two-time All-Star, a lifetime .292 hitter and the 2007 National League Comeback Player of the Year was painstakingly building a card collection that became the envy of the industry. No other assemblage of rookie cards comes close, according to experts.
"In the world of collecting, every collector has their own theme," says Joe Orlando, president of PSA. "If you are talking about baseball rookie cards in the highest quality, no other collection comes close to Dmitri's. The thing that's neat about his collection is that he's assembled not only Hall of Famers, but any noteworthy player in the post-World War II period."

The first 17 Giants got out yesterday before Anthony Bass's perfect game attempt ended with an infield single by Tim Lincecum. Santiago Casilla got the save and is doing well as the closer while Brian Wilson is injured.

they need to get rid of this natural rivalry thing...Major League Baseball is working on a scheduling reconfiguration for the 2013 season and beyond that likely will eliminate the Mets and Yankees as well as other "natural rivals" playing home-and-home, six-game series annually, baseball sources told ESPNNewYork.com.

Re: Interesting Baseball News Items That Do Not Warrant Their Own Thread
They're moving the Astros to balance the leagues but yet they can't figure out how to schedule? AL East vs. NL East then AL East vs. NL Central then AL East vs. NL West. Repeat. That's it. No one is going to lose any sleep if the Yankees-Mets, White Sox-Cubs and Mariners-Padres renew their "rivalries" once every three seasons.
I can't complain but sometimes I still do. - Joe Walsh
