Bartolo Colon and Felix Hernandez faced off in last night's Mariners - A's game in Seattle. It was the third start of the season for each and the third consecutive start against the same opponent for each (although they faced each other in just two of their respective three starts). The last pitcher to start the season with three consecutive starts against the same opponent? Kevin Brown with the Yankees in 2004 against the Devil Rays. Brown pitched exactly 7.0 innings and allowed exactly one earned run in each of those three games, all wins.

I forgot that Kevin Brown was actually good for us at one point in his two years.

Yes, I was aware of that, but thanks for posting that detail since I didn't mention it. It is really about the only way a starting pitcher could start the season facing the same team in his first three starts barring a trip to the DL or missing starts for some other reason.

Tampa's weakness is their bullpen and their offense is scrapy, but can be pitched to.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) Giants closer Brian Wilson is likely headed for surgery on his right elbow after an MRI revealed structural damage and an issue with the ligament, and his season could be in jeopardy.
Manager Bruce Bochy and athletic trainer Dave Groeschner said Saturday the club will seek at least one other opinion and probably two, including from the renowned orthopedist Dr. James Andrews, who performs Tommy John elbow-reconstruction surgeries.

It's not the 27 World Championships that drive the New York Yankees. It's the 28th.

Heard this morning that during the Marlins/Astros game there was a nude model being bodypainted by the swimming pool in plain view.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/201...untdown/2.htmlh. Most interesting 10-minute conversation last week: chatting up Joe Maddon before the game. "Everybody says we're a pitching and defense team, and we are, I guess,'' he said. "But did you know that over the last two years, we're sixth in the major leagues in runs scored?'' That I didn't know. Pleasant fellow. We talked a lot about how much he puts the shift on -- even against lousy hitters. "The information's there for everyone to see,'' he said. "If they're not going to hit it in a certain spot, why play someone there?''
I'm surprise that a manager realizes this.

This doesn't happen every day. It doesn't even happen every century.
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-bi...023719180.htmlBefore Sunday, it had been 130 years since anyone turned a similar type of bizarre triple play that the Los Angeles Dodgers turned against the San Diego Padres in the ninth inning of a 5-4 win. For those keeping score at home, that's a 2-5-6-3 triple play that went around all four bases, the first 2-5-6-3 triple play that featured a putout at third, second and first.
