Me too. Just grab another ball, scuff it up to look like the same one she had and she would never notice the difference.

I don't blame the girl or her mother here, they were in the right it seems. Still seems kind of stupid.

It's funny how when a player wants a ball the fans have to give it to them like they never caught it. Reminds of the guy who caught A-Rod's 500th and then wanted A-Rod to pay him for it. My mom and I both had the same idea if either of us caught it: He can have it; but I give it to him.

A-rod makes more money in one year then I'll see in a lifetime. If A-rod (or any player) wants a ball I caught, he can make me an offer I can't refuse or he can forget his damn souvineer.

I think Bochy may be even worse than Sabean. It took 2/3s of a season for him to realize that Sandoval should be batting 3rd rather than Randy Winn.

One of the best in the game. It'll be interesting to see where Jaramillo lands. The Rangers wanted Rudy Jaramillo back as their hitting coach and offered him a contract for 2010.
But it was only a one-year deal and Jaramillo was looking for a multi-year contract. So he turned down the Rangers' last offer and is leaving the club after spending 15 years building a reputation as one of the best hitting coaches in the game.

I do not have the link but I heard yesterday on WFan that Ron Darling owes 500 thousand in back state/federal taxes.
Maybe he can share a jail cell with Jerry Koosman (spelling) and Nailz.

Kenji Johjima does the Mariners a huuuge favor, and opts out of the $16 million he's owed by them for the next 2 seasons, to return to Japan. Now if he'd only take Carlos Silva with him...

And while he won't get $16M in Japan, I'm sure he'll have no problem paying for Kobe Beef on his salary either.
Now if only Kei Igawa can opt out...Baseball is life;

Still at the age of 33, to pass down another 16 million for 2 years is a tough thing to do.

I agree, and I'm surprised too - as much money as he's already earned, that's an awfully big chunk to pass up on. Like you say, he must really miss Japan.

Ya man, to double your earnings in two years and be able to retire at the age of 35 with ~33 Million earned is a whole different ballpark than age 33with 17 million

Re: Interesting Baseball News Items That Do Not Warrant Their Own Thread
$17M was through 08 - $25 M though 09. And he received a buyout, though undisclosed amount - I'm sure it was more than just moving expenses back to Japan. If I made $25M though age 33, I think I could retire pretty comfortably.

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers announced a multiyear contract extension for general manager Ned Colletti on Tuesday on their off-day prior to Game 5 of the NLCS. It wasn't immediately known what the length of the extension was.
Under Colletti, the Dodgers have won consecutive division titles for the first time since 1977-78 and reached the postseason in three of his four years. The last time that happened was 1963-66, nine general managers ago.

Actually, there's no buyout - http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/text/2010094809.html. But regardless of that, obviously you're right that he's made a great deal of money, which, barring mismanagement or excessive spending, should provide for an extraordinarily comfortable life going forward. But it's nonetheless unusual, and imo surprising, to see a guy walk away from a contract as rich as that one.

Willie's reunited with one of his former coaches:

MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers did not just hire a pitching coach on Tuesday. They hired a pitching system.
The team made a free-agent splash of sorts by hiring former A's and Mets pitching guru Rick Peterson, who has a degree in psychology and a record of success employing biomechanics, a system of analyzing pitchers' deliveries to limit injuries and improve performance. Brewers medical staffers and coaches have been working in that area for several years, making Peterson a perfect fit.
