The only thing I've taken out of Hamilton's "relapse" is that he's a FA after this year. That swing would look real nice in NYS.
"We understand that John Henry must be embarrassed, frustrated and disappointed by his failure in this transaction. Unlike the Yankees, he chose not to go the extra distance for his fans in Boston."

Too much temptation in NYC for a fragile guy like Hamilton.

Re: Interesting Baseball News Items That Do Not Warrant Their Own Thread
Yeah, that's how I saw it, and didn't think it was a real big deal. When I hear relapse I think of him going on a drinking binge, possibly for days/weeks. This appears to be more of a momentary lapse with a family member (what's up with that?) at a restaurant where he had 5 drinks is surely something he and his family should be concerned about. But he isn't try to deny it, and acknowledges that even a short period of weakness is not acceptable and has already outlined what he needs to to to prevent it from happening again.
I would have no hesitation in signing him (if the price is right).

Are you serious? He had a few beers while out at dinner. That's a far cry from doing crack or waking up in a gutter. This shouldn't even have been on the news.
Hell, the guy basically caused another man's death this season. That's unimaginable to try and deal with. Cut him some slack.

Re: Interesting Baseball News Items That Do Not Warrant Their Own Thread
I agree. I think Hamilton getting any significant DL time again this year will hurt his market value much more than this one night misstep. His ability/inability to stay healthy will be a factor in determining if the price is right. But the fact that he had a weak moment while out to dinner with a family member (and then recognizes his weakness and looks to further strengthen his resolve against it) would have no effect on my willingness to sign him.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Tommy Hanson and the Braves got a scare Monday morning with the pitcher drove off the road in a one-car accident that left him with a possible concussion. The Braves were awaiting test results.
The incident occurred at about 7 a.m., three hours before the Braves’ first spring-training workout at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports on the edge of Disney World property outside Orlando.
Hanson told Braves officials that he blew a tire while rounding a curve near the team training site. He had his car towed and made it to camp in time for a 9:30 a.m. team meeting, before a 10 a.m. practice for pitchers and catchers. He didn’t work out.
“I heard at about 7:40,” Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. “He called and said, ‘Hey, I’m going to be running a little late, I blew a tire.’ I said all right, fine.”
There was no incident report or charges filed, and Hanson had no visible injuries, no cuts or bruises, general manager Wren said. But after Hanson complained of not feeling well following the meeting, he was checked out by the Braves training staff and sent to see a doctor for concussion testing.
