Re: Interesting Baseball News Items That Do Not Warrant Their Own Thread

Previously there was "position player karma" with respect to the playoffs:
    1. if eric hinske is on team A, team A reaches the World Series (no guarantee of winning WS)
    2. if mark derosa is on team B, team B reaches the playoffs, but will get swept in a playoff series

The "position player karma" was no longer in effect once the giants won one game against the braves. fortunately, the braves lost the series too.

There's some "pitcher karma" in effect.
    1. if javier vazquez is on the Yankees, the Yankees will lose and embarrass themselves in the ALCS. didn't matter if vazquez was active or not.
    2. if cliff lee is on team A, team A will reach the WS.

This is obviously nonsense to begin with, but Cliff Lee's Indians lost the ALCS to the Sox in 2007.

Bengie Molina was traded from the Giants to the Rangers this season.

He'll get a WS ring no matter who wins.

friggin hilarious is what it is. though, the giants would have to vote for him to actually get it right?

Good question. The article just says he's eligible. Either way it's funny.

He appeared in 61 games with the Giants and 57 games with the Rangers. You'd have to assume that the Giants would vote him at least a half share and that a WS ring would come with that.

    Certainly an interesting situation.

saw on mlbnetwork that the giants already said he'd definitely get one (were they to win). makes sense... he was a big part of that team for several years.

Rangers seem to be a sensitive bunch when on the road. First Lee's wife complained about Yankee fans now this.

Does this mean Hamilton's wife will object to him signing with the Giants.

"Weed, no, that wasn't my deal," said Hamilton. “It was crazy. I was looking at the cops a couple of times during the game."

The Post reported the incident was Hamilton’s second straight run-in with blatant weed use since arriving in San Francisco for the first two games of the Series.

"My wife and I were walking down the street (Tuesday) and there was a guy smoking a joint, with a cop 50 yards away," he told the Post.

No disrespect to Josh, but I'm betting the weed they're smoking is safer than some of the stuff you put into your body during your drug addiction days.

Hey Josh! Maybe if you just stuck to weed like 99% of other MLB players you wouldn't have almost thrown your life and career down the tubes you idiot. If he was never into weed then smelling it should be an issue if he is concerned about a relapse. He should be more worried about drunkin idiots spilling a beer down his throat while chasing a ball into the stands.

I don't think he has to worry about that, the Rangers rarely make trips to Wrigley Field.

What part did you miss? A. Pot is harmless compared to the stuff he was snorting/smoking B. Alcohol at the ballpark and around the city he is in should be more of a concern to him given his past than someone smoking weed.

yes, the WS loser gets their pennant ring. The Phillies got 2009 NL rings on the second home game of the 2010 season

That's pretty lame IMO. Do the CS losers get ribbons too?

Jose Guillen has played his last game in the majors. The Giants did the honorable thing by yanking his cheating ass from the playoff roster. No one will touch him after his suspension is up next year.

Did the Yankees get "pennant rings" after losing the WS in 2001 and 2003?

All teams get a pennant ring. I remember seeing a photo of the one from 2003 (I think it was that year). This one is from 1976:

They might get them, but that's far different than a public ceremony/celebration. I don't see George holding a day for finishing 2nd.
