we play North and South on my friend's hacked xbox every friday night before we go out to the bar. it's much more entertaining than the new stuff.

They would never get it off the ground. They can't justify having that price when the XBox 360 came out over a year earlier $400. Sidenote - Sony also said at one point that the PSP would be $500. Original price was $299 and how it's $249.

When they released the PS2 people were selling them on ebay for $600+. So it is actually smart for them to start off high and slowly lower the price to maximize profits, instead letting others cash in on their product

Sometimes a company will price something higher to specifically make it seem like a big-ticket item. There's a local supermarket chain that has a store in a very wealthy area and a middle-class area. I was talking to one of the butchers in the wealthy area store and asked him if there was a difference in the meat offered at either store. He told me they received the exact same stuff, it's just that customers in the wealthy area won't buy something under a certain price point because they don't believe they're getting quality.

Blu-Ray aint cheap. Plus they saw 360s going for $1K+ on Ebay, so why not get that money themselves. This is a good opportunity for MS.

If Sony is smart they wont do this..and I honestly think they wont launch it at that price. No way they come way over in price to the 360. I see it launching for right about the same price that the 360 did. Ill definitely be getting one..but not at that price...and after the hysteria dies down. So I expect not til March or April '07 before I see it anyways
