Hopefully, we won't be in need of an arm when the Astros are in the basement looking to dump salary.

It's not my money, and I know Clemens is great, but 15 - 20 million for another year? One Forty something Yr old is enough IMO. At least it will only cost money and not prospects to get Clemens in Pinstripes at the present.

The staff would really have to be in shambles for the Yanks to seek a trade for Petitte.

I guess it would all depend on how are current staff is holding up as to whether I would want these Ex-Yankees back. Regardless, I will always view Clemens and Petitte appreciatively for their contributions.

I would take Pettitte for Moose, Pavano, or Wright (if he counts as being "in the rotation").

For their cost or/and their potential, I would not trade Chacon and would probably not give up the Unit or Wang.

The thin is that it really does not appear that Pettitte is going to sign an extension with the Astros than that means if the Yankees really want him that badly they can go after him in the offseason. If Pettitte is moved by Astros this season it would be a salary dump and considering that move helps the Astros because they will lose him anyway in the offseason if he is traded, the Yankees really should not have to give up anything of real value for him.

I don't think anybody that has a clue thinks Clemens can give us that. However he probably will put up better numbers than Wright, Pavano, and possibly Moose. Clemens back in the AL in New York would probably translate into an ERA of 3.5-4.0, with about 13-17 wins if he stays healthy. Granted those numbers could be much better or much worse but thats a mean, but he will defintley not be putting up an ERA anywhere close to what he puts up in the NL.

If the Yanks pursued Clemens, it would be wishful thinking on my part that he could achieve a sub 2 era. A sub 3.0 in the AL would be spectacular, and with the Yankee run support, I agree that 15 -17 wins could be reasonably expected.
