Pat Robertson suggests God smote Sharon

"(CNN) -- Television evangelist Pat Robertson suggested Thursday that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's stroke was divine retribution for the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, which Robertson opposed.

"He was dividing God's land, and I would say, 'Woe unto any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course to appease the [European Union], the United Nations or the United States of America,'" Robertson told viewers of his long-running television show, "The 700 Club."

"God says, 'This land belongs to me, and you'd better leave it alone,'" he said."

Here we go again. I'm not a fan of Sharon, but this rhetoric makes me sick to my stomach. Rhetorical hogwash, condemning someone to death for trying to make peace.

Also: I'm a Christian and I don't know why this dude calls himself a Christian. His teachings are totally different than my Christian view on a lot of things. He really needs to pick up the NEW TESTAMENT and read it. The NEW TESTAMENT is all about forgiving, not punishing.

You know Barry, thats quite enough. I lost family in the Holocaust, I've experienced antisemitism. I can deal with it the way I want to deal with it and I'd like a little bit of respect from you that I don't find references to Christ killing offensive, even if I do find them dangerous.

I guess he has crossed the line too many times for me. How can a person that calls himself a Christian have so much hate for so many groups?

This is a very influential man that is making what I consider some pretty inflammatory statements over and over again. It is hard to see the good in him.
