Houston, TX (Sports Network) - The Houston Astros have signed outfielder Preston Wilson to a one-year contract with options that could extend the deal to three years.

The 2003 National League All-Star is a career .264 hitter with 171 homers, 591 RBI and 193 doubles.

Damn. I was hoping Preston would be playing his home games in Boston in 2006.

Astros signed outfielder Preston Wilson, who had been with the Nationals, to a one-year, $4 million contract with a three-year club option.

Nice contract, would of been a good signing for the Yanks...

I'm confused...how many CF's do the Yankees need?

Since they are the team that needs a CF that is correct.

"Mookie Jr" is a decent player. I am glad the Yankees got Damon instead but I wish good things for Wilson. I always remember how in 1998 Chris Russo said the Mets should give Wilson a chance to play and a week later said he didn't think Wilson would make it.."too much of a tweener". So much for Chris Russo giving people a chance to play. You should wait at least a month. Obviously Wilson doesn't have great walk/strikeout ratios and his big year was helped by playing in Coors Field. But he did have some good years in Florida's pitchers park. You don't want too many guys like Preston Wilson on your team, but a guy who can play a key defensive position decently and do some good things with the bat will help.

Yankee fans, let me ask you a question: who would you prefer, Jacque Jones or Preston Wilson? In addition, who would you prefer: Jacque Jones at a three year deal or Preston Wilson at a one year deal?

Note that I'm not necessarily asking you which you would want in RF in New York... just thinking from an outsider's perspective.
    Go Cubs go!
