Status of current Yankee Free Agents, who should stay???
This thread is about the current Yankee free agents only, and who should be re-signed or let go. So no posts about Sheffield or Posada cuz they are still under contract.
Chacon - He should come back on at least a 1 yr deal
Embree - Better be gone
Brown - No doubt he is gone
Bellhorn - Already gone I believe
Lawton - Never had a chance at coming back
Tino - Looks to be gone
Small - Should come back on a 1 yr deal
Leiter - Would be nice to come back on a 1 yr deal as lefty specialist. We have had the worst left handed relief pitchers since the day of Llyod and Stanton.
Sanchez - Gone
Mendoza - Maybe back on a 1 year minor league deal so he can pitch in 1 game again next year
Ruben - He's all 1's to me. 1 man, only 1 roster spot, 1 yr deal, 1 million dollars. Book it.
Gordon - We need him back, if it takes 3 years then do it, we have no other options
F-Rod - No way he's coming back
Flaherty - I'd like to see him back, since Posada took over full time I cant remember the names of any other backup catcher besides Flaherty.
Bernie - He has to go because of Torre. If Bernie is re-signed he will start at least 90 games in CF, I dont care what they say or who they have on the team. They bumped Lofton over him, and last year on 3 different occasions they said Bernie was done starting in CF. Thanks for the memories Bernie, now its time to move on.
Matsui and Sturtze are already taken care of for 2006, I dont think I missed anyone else.

Any team that gives Ruben Sierra $1 million should have their franchise revoked.

No, Ruben should not be coming back. Obviously you won't listen but it's better for the team if he doesn't. He was great for the last two years, but it's time to let go.

MLB having immunity to monopoly legislation, they could probably do something like that.

He was good in 2004, in 2005 he stunk. We need reserve players that can field and hit. Ruben could never field, now he can't hit.

In his 2003-04 tenure with the Yankees, he was a good bench player (102 and 96 OPS+s.) This year, he was horrendous. (65 OPS+)

Yeah, sorry, that's what I meant. Like Bernie, he doesn't play that well anymore. And like Bernie, if he's on the Roster, Torre will play him.

Ruben was on the DL in 2005. Didnt he go on the DL because he got hurt in that game in which he put us in first place??? The team also went back into 2nd place after he went on the DL. Ruben sacrificed his body and soul for the Yankees, Torre even said Ruben going on the DL was a "big loss for the team". Anyway this post isnt only about Ruben, what about bringing Leiter back as a lefty specialist?? Or what will we do with Embree???

Well if Ruben retires or signs with another team, then we lose SierraMist as well.
Chacon isn't a free agent, nor is Small.

No he didn't. He got hurt rounding first base, thats what happens when you're injury prone. It's not like he had a choice "get a hit, win the game and get hurt" or "strike out and be fine." And his soul? Dude, he didn't make a pact with satan or something.

I like Rubes, but he shouldn't be, and hopefully will not be, on the team next season. That roster space needs to go to a better player.

Re: Status of current Yankee Free Agents, who should stay???
Maybe he ran extra hard so he can make it to 1st base. Anyway after his 17 HR, 65 RBI 2004 season, Ruben coulde gotten a 2 yr deal from Baltimore, but instead he stayed with the Yankees on a 1 yr deal. We shouldve given his a 2 yr deal last year, so we owe him for 2006. Anyway like I said before I cant think of anyone else to play his position of DH/OF for that price. We dont want no Frank Thomas on the team either.

Yes, when half the team was injured last year, any more injuries would become big losses to the team. Heart and soul? If any player is not giving their heart and soul for the team, then they're not playing up to their potential.

Re: Status of current Yankee Free Agents, who should stay???
I'd rather have a younger Bernie Williams back than donate a charity spot to the done Ruben Sierra. Give the job to a younger player that can field and hit, something Ruben is now inept at. He is done. You are the only person in this country including the Yankee FO that thinks Ruben should/will be back. The Yanks for some odd reason want players that can help them win. Strange thing.

The Yankees do not owe Ruben anything.

If the Yankees "owed" anybody a spot in 2006 based on charity it would be Bernie, not Ruben. I don't think Bernie will return and Ruben definitely isn't.

Ran extra hard? It was a single to deep center, one step away from the bag. Ruben had a great 2004, and a crappy 2005. There is no reason for him to be on this team next year, we don't "owe him."

I think Bernie owes us, he was overpaid the last 2 or 3 years.

And so was Ruben in 2005 for doing nothing for us.

Show me a younger player who can field and hit, and that we wont sign for 15 mill a year. Bubba hit a few times, he was ok in the field, but still makes mistakes. Phillips is a good fielder, but only hits in AAA, he is not a good MLB hitter. Plus these guys are almost 30, they are not young players anymore.

So you are saying we made a good business decision with our contract and Baltimore almost made a bad one, so now we have to match Baltimore and make a bad decision out of loyalty from 2 years ago?

They don't really owe Bernie a spot, either. He hasn't earned his 12+M salary since when, 2002?
