Is Chacon considered "untouchable"?
Cashman at various times has proclaimed that he has no intention of trading either Cano, Wang, or even Pavano. Has he ever said anything about Chacon? I think we can all take his statements with a grain of salt since anything he says might just be a ploy. One fact however, is self evident. The Yankees have 6 starting pitchers vying for 5 spots going into the season ( 7 if you add Small to the mix). Someone has to go. Ideally you'd like to trade Pavano (not great trade value), or Wright (poorer trade value). Of all the candidates, Wang probably has the highest trade value, but Chacon certainly enhanced his value a great deal last season. In a perfect world, I'd love to see the Yankees trade Wright and prospects for a CF and bullpen help, but the cold, hard fact is that Cashman will have to trade someone he doesn't really want to trade, for players the team really needs.

Re: Is Chacon considered "untouchable"?
I love Chacon, I don't want to part with him. However, if the Yankees can get a young, solid on both offense and defense centerfielder with a cheap salary, then I might be ok with it.
Anyone know such a centerfielder?

I'm thinking his name is Aaron Rowand. I say keep Shawn unless we can use him to fleece a team out of some top player(s)/prospects.

For as good as his defense is, for me to be ok with in trading Shawn, I would like someone a little better with the bat.

I'd rather not trade Chacon. He showed some valuable traits last year. We need more pitchers like him. Not to mention the fact that he pitched lights out.

Re: Is Chacon considered "untouchable"?
The way the yankees are going in the offseason and cashman telling people he wants to cut payrolls, chacon and small are more untouchable than wright or pavano.

I don't know why, but it wouldn't shock me, if he went in a package to Seattle for Ichiro.

The questions surrounding Wright, Pavano, and Wang's health, Pavano's heart, and the liklihood of Moose/RJ missing starts and/or spending time on the DL make it prudent to carry six starters into ST.

Re: Is Chacon considered "untouchable"?
Nobody's untouchable, but he's young, he's cheap, and his performance improved dramatically after his breaking stuff was liberated from the Colorado Himalayas. I know his K/9 and K/BB rates scare some people, and mid-rotation status may indeed be his ceiling, but given the number of pricey MASH-unit types that populate our staff, I wonder why he's considered so expendable.
Rocking that "arrogant Yankee fan" attitude.

Re: Is Chacon considered "untouchable"?
No. I like the guy but am still a bit concerned with his K rate and K/BB rate. I'd deal him in the right trade.
“I mean, people knew that Brown was out there, and that Randy was ornery all the time. And Pavano is whoever he is. But if you’re their manager, you can’t go out and write about them like that.”

The Yankees can't afford to give up all of their affordable assets for expensive players.

Chacon, Small, and Sierra are all untouchable.

Re: Is Chacon considered "untouchable"?
Trading Chacon would be awful unless the Yankees can use him to acquire a #1 pitcher. The guy came in the middle of a bad situation and was a huge part in turning the team around. I can't wait to see what he does with a full season of work.
Chacon was a diamond in the rough, and the Yankees should feel privileged to have such a quality pitcher for such a low price.

No one would touch Sierra anyway, so that doesn't matter.
