Wow interesting. I say that is a good deal for the Mets. I have heard mixed things about Petit.

A GREAT move by the Mets. They're making their move early. I give Minaya credit.

Re: Mets get Delgado
It looks great on paper...the Mets have that network starting up, they needed another big bat...Mike Jacobs looked good last year....let's see how it works out on the field for them. Also Delgado is scheduled to make a ton of money for the next few years, those Mets are really starting to climb the payroll ladder!

Re: Mets get Delgado
It is certainly what they needed, and if they get Wagner they will be in GREAT shape.
This way they get to hold on to Milledge and not trade him for Manny."Long Island is New Jersey with a GED." - Triumph the Insult Comic Dog.

At least they didn't have to give up Milledge.

Re: Mets get Delgado
They're losing Piazza's salary this year, so maybe not that big a jump in payroll.
Maybe they can still get Manny and Wagner- they would be hard to beat with all that talentGreetings from Pensacola- highest per capita tattooed grandmothers in the US

Re: Mets get Delgado
I think they are also looking to dump Cameron's contract, so they'll certainly have enough money to throw at Wagner, and even Manny

The contract is disgustingly backloaded (4, 13.5, 14.5, 16) with a club otion $12 mil buyout for the 5th year, or a $4 mil buyout. The 5th year becomes guaranteed at $16 mil if Delgado does well enough in post season or regular season MVP voting.
The $7 mil the Mets received certainly helps to offset that just a bit.
I like the move for them, especially with their new cable channel coming (I think) down the road.Mo' Nut: One Smoove Brotha.

Re: Mets get Delgado
Great deal for the Mets. Petit is widely believed to have stats in excess of his stuff. His command is excellent, but he doesn't have any pitch that is exceptional- or even comfortably above average. He should be a decent major league pitcher, but the Mets are not losing a future ace.
Marlins are really unloading here. Kind of makes them look silly for not dealing Burnett last year, no?

Re: Mets get Delgado
I think it was Victor Diaz, I guess he'll be in the mix, but I'm not really sure.

Re: Mets get Delgado
They don't like his defense, and don't believe he'll ever amount to a productive enough corner OF.

Re: Mets get Delgado
Excellent deal for the Mets. The get some much needed production out of the 1B slot and add protection for Wright and Beltran.
And the didn't have to give up Milledge. Good job.

Re: Mets get Delgado
Excellent - this is like us doing a DeSalvo+Shelley Duncan for Delgado deal. I'd have done that.

Re: Mets get Delgado
Petit is MUCH more valuable trading chip than DeSalvo.
