Mariners to release several players
Aaron Sele and Shigetoshi Hasegawa are among some rumored names to be released by the Mariners. Per Cashman's interview on WFAN, he is looking into Sele for the starting rotation. Should he also look into Hasegawa? Another arm in the bullpen couldn't hurt.

Re: Mariners to release several players
The Yankees have really become the resting place of the MLB's pitching scrap heap. Amazing.

Here's a link for Sele. They're calling up Jorge Campillo to take his spot

Re: Mariners to release several players
A few more injuries and the Yankees can have a 5 man formerly DFA'd rotation.

As scary as it sounds, it could happen. RJ and Mussina are both injury-prone.

I can imagine they will DFA Spiezio as well, the problem is swallowing the $6 million they still owe him.
SI: Do you have a secret ambition?
Igawa: That's secret.

Re: Mariners to release several players
Let's get this straight.
The radio guys asked cashman "Aaron Sele got released today, will you look into him?" and he responded with "We look into all possible alternatives, etc, etc". Cashman didnt say that he was targeting Sele or something like that.

And what is the big deal even if he is, I wonder. Let me see if I can grasp the pulse of some on this forum:

We can keep cracking these jokes to our hearts' content, but it doesn't change the reality that NO ONE of worth is/was available. And even if they were, we didn't want to trade anyone OF worth.

That being said, I'd rather have Aaron Sele do a spot start than Hideo Nomo. If you have to clear out a Brad Voyles or another AAAA type to give Aaron Sele a minor league deal, I say you do it.

Apparently you're grasping the wrong thing because it's humor. That's all it is. Smiley faces and pleasant swipes at our current rotation/DL. We know who we're stuck with and who we're not moving. We're going to be just fine.

Here's Shiggy's stats: Shigetoshi Hasegawa (HOSS-eh-gawa)
In 2002, he was very good (3.20 ERA), but in 2003, he was absolutely filthy & Mo-like in a 1.48 ERA.Dr King (1929-68): A dream is forgotten unless others carry on.

Re: Mariners to release several players
Looks like the Mariners have finally decided to rebuild. Good idea. But I don't know why they expected to be any better this season. Even though they signed Sexson and Beltre, they came into the season with a rotation of Joel Pineiro, Jamie Moyer, Gil Meche, Ryan Franklin, and Aaron Sele. At least the bullpen has been good this year.

I guess this means we'll finally get a chance to see Felix Hernandez in the bigs. I can't wait to see if he lives up to the hype, and pick him up for my fantasy team.
