Griffey Says Yankees Rumors, "Crazy"

From today's Dayton Daily News:

MIAMI | Ken Griffey Jr. shook his head, rolled his eyes and asked, "Where do they come up with this stuff? I don't know where stuff like this starts."

ESPN.com reported Griffey said he would agree to a trade to the New York Yankees.

"That's crazy," he said. "Why does it always have to be me? I just want to play baseball."

Three years remain on Griffey's contract after this season. Because he has more than 10 years in the majors and five years with the same team, Griffey can negate any trade the Reds try to make.

And he thinks the team might try.

Griffey's opinion on Kearns rumors:

There is another rumor floating. Rebuffed by his attempt this spring to acquire Wily Mo Pena, Washington Nationals general manager Jim Bowden reportedly is asking about Kearns.

"Doesn't surprise me," Kearns said.

Griffey is a huge Kearns fan and

believes trading him would be a monumental mistake.

"He is a 30-to-40 home run guy," Griffey said. "He is the best defensive player of the four of us and he is the only one who hits to all fields."

The only way the Yanks should do this is if they can go get rid of Kevin Brown. Even though his contract is up at the end of the year, the quicker he is out of the Bronx the better

Griffe has spent years whining about how when he was a kid Billy Martin wouldn't let him in the clubhouse, how he didn't want to come to the Yankees because of this. Now that he has flopped in his hometown he is supposed to want to come here? Why, so he can save money on phone bills to BristoltoHarold Reynolds complaining about ESPN showing his strikeouts and Jim Edmonds playing better than him? No thanks. Well, maybe if they take Giambi.

I would not trade Kevin Brown for Griffey. We would not have anyone for the rotation and too many guys for the DH, 1B, CF combo. The only way we trade for Griffey is if we trade Giambi for him and send some money their way. I would like to make that trade.
